Pelton Hat Trick Powers Lourdes to 6-1 Rout of Indiana East

Gray Wolves extend winning streak to three with balanced scoring effort at Wildcat Stadium

Lourdes men's soccer turned in its most explosive performance of the season Wednesday night, rolling to a 6-1 victory over Indiana University East at Wildcat Stadium. The win was the Gray Wolves' third in a row, improving the team to 3-1 overall.

The Gray Wolves struck early, opening the scoring in the 8th minute when Martin Coronel (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) finished a feed from Zack Meunier-Gorman (Sylvania, Ohio). Just three minutes later, Breno Queiroz (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) doubled the lead off an assist from Leandro Bisanzio (Monroe, Mich.).

Indiana East pulled one back in the 15th minute, but Lourdes responded with a dominant surge before halftime. Jack Pelton (Toledo, Ohio) scored twice in a span of 30 seconds, with Jon Slay (Toledo, Ohio) providing an assist on the first. Moments later, Ahmed Taleb (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) added his first goal of the season, assisted by Admar Goncalves (Brazil). Pelton completed his hat trick in the 53rd minute with an unassisted strike to put the match out of reach.

Pelton finished with three goals on three shots on goal, while Coronel, Queiroz, and Taleb each found the net once. Four different Gray Wolves recorded assists in the balanced attack.

Defensively, Andre Chavez (Detroit, Mich.) made three saves in goal, improving to 2-0 as a starter. The back line held IU East to just one first-half shot on target until the match was well in hand.

Lourdes (3-1) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, hosting the University of St. Francis at 7 p.m. inside Wildcat Stadium.
