Baseball Swept by Judson in Opening Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Lourdes baseball team (0-4, 0-0 in WHAC) were swept in a four-game series against Judson (10-2, 0-0 in Chicagoland), in Louisville, Ky. this weekend.
The Gray Wolves lost the first game on Friday, 2 to 6, lost the second game on Friday, 4 to 6, lost the first game on Saturday, 1 to 9, and lost the second game on Saturday, 2 to 4. The Eagles are now on an eight-game winning streak after starting the year off 2-2.

Game 1
Lourdes senior pitcher Brenden Holland threw a great game for the Gray Wolves, leaving the Eagles bats scoreless through the first four innings. Holland gave up just two runs in six innings and left the game with the score tied at two apiece. Holland also had three strikeouts on the night.

Offensively, Lourdes was led by senior shortstop AJ Brinson, who hit an rbi double in the fifth inning to get Lourdes on the board. Senior catcher Andrew Arnston also drove in a run via a solo home run.
The difference in the game was Judson's four-run seventh inning to break the tie and give them the win.

Game 2
The Friday nightcap was slightly closer for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves lost by two. Lourdes got off to a 2-0 lead after the first two innings with Arnston and Brinson once again leading the charge. Arnston hit a gap double in the first inning to score junior first baseman Alex Dupree. Brinston later singled up the middle to drive in the second run of the game.

Despite the early lead, Judson was able to put up six unanswered runs over the next five innings to take a 6-2 lead heading into the final frame.

Lourdes' sophomore infielder/outfielder Landon Brown hit a two-rbi double in the seventh to cut the lead to two. However, the Gray Wolves weren't able to erase all of the deficit as the Eagles held onto the 6-4 win.

Game 3
The early afternoon game on Saturday was the most lopsided of the weekend with Lourdes losing by eight. Judson's offense was on full display with nine runs and eight hits in the game.

Freshman JJ Foti gave up just one run through his first five innings in his first outing as a Gray Wolf. The local St. John's high school hurler had Lourdes in a 1-1 tie heading into the sixth before the Eagles tacked on four runs and chased him out of the game. Lourdes wasn't able to give him much run support with only three hits in the game.

Game 4
The Terracotta & Gray played perhaps their most complete game of the weekend in their 2-4 game four loss. Lourdes was once again up early, taking a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning.

Sophomore centerfielder Drake Sekinger got the Lourdes offense going with an rbi single in the fourth inning. Alex Dupree hit a sacrifice fly in the subsequent inning for their second run.

Junior pitcher Ayden Hall threw a great game on the bump for Lourdes, exiting the game in the sixth without giving up a run and throwing eight strikeouts. The Lourdes momentum was shattered, however, when Judson's Kevin Flores hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to take the lead. The senior from the Dominican Republic has 10 rbi's on the year. Lourdes went three-up, three-down in the seventh to end the game.

Series Stats
Although Lourdes was swept, there were definitely some positive performances to take from the weekend. AJ Brinson hit .462 with two rbi's and was four-for-four in stolen bases. Landon Brown hit .273 and also had a pair of rbi's. Andrew Arnston hit the lone homerun and also had a pair of rbi's.

The downfall for Lourdes was in the later innings. In the first five innings, Lourdes outscored Judson six to three. However, in the sixth inning or later, Lourdes was outscored 22 to three by Judson.

Next Up
The Gray Wolves will travel to Hamilton, Ohio to take on the Miami-Hamilton Harriers next weekend in another four-game series from Feb. 28 to March 1.
