Baseball Battles with Bowling Green

Lourdes led through the first four innings against the D-1 opponent

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Lourdes baseball team (11-22, 5-11 in WHAC) fell 4-13 to Bowling Green (13-17, 7-8 in MAC) in a road NAIA vs NCAA matchup on Wednesday evening.

The Gray Wolves were leading the Falcons through the first four innings and battled tough throughout the game against the regional Division-1 Mid-American Conference foe.

Lourdes senior Caleb Loboschefski got his first start of the season for the Gray Wolves, hurling three solid innings with two earned runs allowed and two strikeouts. The strong start was accompanied by a massive Andrew Arnston three-run home run in the second inning that gave Lourdes a 4-2 lead.

Freshman J.J Foti took over for Loboschefski in the fourth inning and threw a scoreless 21-pitch frame. Lourdes eventually lost the lead in the fifth inning after Ryan Ragusa gave up a home run to the Bowling Green power-hitting designated hitter/outfielder T.J Takats. Ragusa was credited with the loss, his first of his strong start to his collegiate career.

The Bowling Green lead was still 5-4 heading into the seventh inning, when the momentum of the game started a complete shift to the Falcons. Bowling Green scored four runs in the seventh and four more runs in the eighth inning off of three Lourdes relievers.

Lourdes fought hard in the game, improving defensively from the UNOH sweep, while also marginally cutting down on their walks.

Next Up
Lourdes will look to build upon their early Bowling Green success as they face Lawrence Tech and Defiance this weekend. The home series against Defiance on Sunday will be crucial to making the WHAC tournament as the Yellow Jackets are currently one spot above the Gray Wolves in the conference standings.
