The Lourdes University Women's Basketball team played in their first ever game on Thursday night at the Tam-O-Shanter in Sylvania, OH. with a packed house the Lourdes Gray Wolves gave a valiant effort on a historic night. While the scoreboard might not have tilted in favor of the Gray Wolves it still was a great night held by all. The Cardinals would win the game 93-59.
The opening tip went the way of the #8 ranked Cardinals of Concordia University and they would pile it on early for the Gray Wolves as they would jump out to a 19-0 lead before the first points in Gray Wolves history would come after a tough offensive rebound. Junior Center
Romeisha Willis would put her name in the record books as the first scorer in history as she muscled up a tough shot in traffic to drop for two points much to the fans delight.
The rest of the first half would not be as kind to the Gray Wolves as they would scratch and claw for every point as they would trail at the break 59-25. Freshman Forward
Emily Orsini would lead the Gray Wolves with nine points at the break. Freshman Point Guard Darmii Warner would have six points; Freshman Guard
Lauren Tilden would have five points. As a team the Gray Wolves would finish the first half with a 41% shooting to the Cardinals 44%. The Cardinals would finish the first half with eight of seventeen three pointers to the Gray Wolves tow of four. The Cardinals would out rebound Lourdes at a 29 to 18 advantage.
The Lourdes Gray Wolves would start the second half strong as they would score the first bucket of the half to make it 59-29. It wouldn't stay like that for long though as the Cardinals found their half time adjustments working as they jumped out to a 70-37 lead midway through the second half. The score would stay close to around the forty point mark all the way until the five minute media timeout when a new tradition was born. Just like the Wisconsin Badgers the Lourdes Gray Wolves would use a song to help inspire the crowd. That song would be “Jump Around”.
Statistically speaking the second half was a huge difference compared to the first. The Gray Wolves tied with the Cardinals as each team scored 34 points. Each team shot 35% from field goal and Lourdes finished with four of nine from three point land compared to the Cardinals who were one of ten.
For the game the Lourdes Gray Wolves shot 375 from the field, 46% from three point land and finished 7 of 16 from the charity stripe. The Cardinals finished shooting 40% from the field, 33% from 3 pointers and 18 for 29 from the free throw line.
The next game for the Gray Wolves is on the road as they head to Goshen College on Saturday in Goshen, IN. at 1pm. The next home game for the Gray Wolves will be November 8
th against Spring Arbor University at 7pm inside the Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter
