The Lourdes University women's basketball team hit the road on Wednesday night to take on newly accepted WHAC opponent Marygrove College. The Mustangs outdueled the Gray Wolves by a final score of 75-68.
The first half belonged to the Mustangs as they led at the break 30-25. The first half would be called sloppy at best as the two teams combined for 37 turnovers as the Gray Wolves had 19 of them. The Gray Wolves did win the battle on the boards as they held the edge 25 to 22. With the turnovers mounting the Gray Wolves were only able to shoot 22% from the field on 6 of 28 shooting.
Freshman
Lauren Tilden led the team in scoring at the break with 10 points including two three pointers. Sophomore
Tarynn Hampton had seven points and 11 rebounds for the Gray Wolves.
The second half of the game started out very shaky for the Gray Wolves as the first five minutes was all Mustangs as they stretched their half time lead of five points all the way to twenty. The Gray Wolves wouldn't quit though on the night as they started to find the rhythm and chipped away at the lead bit by bit. The Gray Wolves just would run out of time before pulling off a huge comeback and fell 75-68.
“We kept fighting to the end and made a good run but turnovers killed us tonight. We played much better in the second half then the first. The first five minutes of the second half they put a run against us that we just couldn't overcome” said Coach Zareth Gray after the loss.
Next up for Lourdes will be a road trip to Gray, IN. to take on Indiana University Northwest on Saturday at 4pm.
