The Lourdes University Men's Basketball team was on the road on Friday night as they took on perennial powerhouse Mt. Vernon Nazarene in Mount Vernon, OH. The Gray Wolves would play hard and come up with a very big win on the road following the Christmas break 62-51.
The Gray Wolves would play hard on both ends of the court throughout the game “Great team effort. We played hard for the full 40 minutes and we definitely won the game on the defensive end. Anytime you can beat a really good team like Mount Vernon it's something to build on” said Head Coach
Andre Smith following the victory.
The Gray Wolves were stifling on the defensive end holding Mount Vernon to just 33% shooting from the floor including only 20% during the second half and allowing only one three pointer down the stretch.
The Gray Wolves would shoot 42% for the game including 80% from the free throw line. The Gray Wolves were led in scoring by
John Willhite who put up 17 points on 8-20 shooting including a made three pointer. Two other Lourdes players would contribute with double figures in the low scoring affair with
John Washington with 14 points and
Corey Harvey dropping 13.
The Gray Wolves improve to 7-9 overall following the win.
The next game for the Gray Wolves will be back in the friendly confines of the Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter on January 4
th at 7:30pm against WHAC opponent #4 ranked Davenport University.
