On Saturday afternoon the Lourdes Gray Wolves men's basketball team hosted WHAC opponent Aquinas College at the Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter. The Gray Wolves win 46-45.
The first half started out very slow for the Gray Wolves as they found themselves down 10-4 early before Lourdes would rally to cut the lead down to four at 16-14. The Saints would respond though thanks to some tough shooting for the Gray Wolves and extend
the lead back to 10 points their largest of the half. Aquinas would lead at the break 26-18.
Corey Harvey would lead the Gray Wolves in scoring with six points and
John Willhite had four. For the Saints they would be led by Joe Powers with 10 points.
The Gray Wolves shot 27% from the floor as the Saints would play tough defense throughout the half holding the Gray Wolves to 7 of 26 from the floor. Aquinas would shoot 43%. Aquinas out rebounded Lourdes 15-14Aquinas would shoot 4 of 7 beyond the 3pt. arc while Lourdes would go 0-6.
The second half would be a physical defensive battle as Lourdes would fall even further behind at 32-23 before rallying to draw them to within three points at 38-35 forcing an Aquinas timeout with 8:20 remaining in regulation. Lourdes would tie the game up at 38-38 with 7:00 minutes remaining on a
John Washington 3ptr. Lourdes would take their first lead of the ballgame at the 5 min mark with a two basket in the paint by
Corey Harvey.
The time between 3 minutes and 1:43 remaining would be a back and forth battle as the Saints would grab a one point advantage to hold a 45-44 lead following a
Marcus Outlaw tough basket in the paint.
The Gray Wolves defense would hold in the final seconds as they held off a buzzer beating shot by Zach Eddy to secure the victory 46-45.
