Lourdes University rebounded from an opening round loss at the Saint Xavier Midwest Classic to post a convincing 82-39 victory over Siena Heights on Friday afternoon at The Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill.
Lourdes shot 60.4% from the floor for the game and made 5-of-8 three-point attempts while limiting the Saints to just 25.9% shooting on the afternoon. The Gray Wolves also forced 24 turnovers which led to 32 points.
The Gray Wolves jumped all over the Saints from the opening tip, taking an 18-2 lead just over six minutes into the contest. Another 17-2 run in the first half increased the lead to 37-8 with just under four minutes to play before halftime and Lourdes took a 43-17 lead into the break.
A 15-2 run out of the locker room pushed Lourdes' lead to 58-19 with under 15 minutes to play and the Gray Wolves were able to coast the rest of the way.
Fourteen different players scored for Lourdes in the victory, led by
Alex Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/Nordonia H.S.) leading the way with 20 points, making 6-of-8 shots from the floor and going a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe.
Elvin Butler (Akron, Ohio/East H.S.) added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Lourdes dominated the paint, outscoring Siena Heights 42-14 in the lane, and held a 12-0 advantage on the fast break.
Eric Cogan led Siena Heights (3-10) with 10 points.
Lourdes (8-5) will close out play at the Saint Xavier Midwest Classic on Saturday afternoon, facing Robert Morris (Ill.) in the fifth place game. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
