For the second straight tournament Lourdes University set both individual and team scoring records as the Gray Wolves defeated Indiana-East on a rainy Friday afternoon at Winchester Golf Course in Winchester, Ind.
“The way we were able to follow up two school records with two more school records has me excited to see this team play in our next event,” head coach
Scott Simon stated.
The Gray Wolves posted a team total of 333, bettering the team's previous mark set just three days ago in Grand Rapids, Mich. by 16 strokes. Junior
Brooke Darah (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.), who entered the season with the school record for lowest 18-hole round, took back the record after firing a 77 on Friday afternoon over the par-72 layout. Darah carded two birdies among her round while shooting nines of 41 and 36.
Heather Steiner (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert H.S.), who had set the previous school mark with her 79 on Tuesday afternoon, fired an 83 against the Red Wolves while
Kallie Breyfogle (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) carded an 85.
Lindsey Lehman (Sylvania, Ohio/Otsego H.S.) rounded out the scorers with an 88.
Roberta Craider (Brecksville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan H.S.) shot 92 on Friday while
Haley Steiner (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert H.S.) added a 106 to round out the Lourdes lineup.
Indiana-East had just three players and was not able to field a team score.
“Since they were unable to fill a five-player team, we divided up our roster into two three-player teams and competed against them,” Simon added. “Brooke, Kallie, and Roberta came away victorious.”
Lourdes will return to the course on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Defiance, Ohio to play in the Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament. Action will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Ironwood Golf Club.
