Women's Basketball Opens Four-Game Homestand Tuesday

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes begins a four-game homestand on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Goshen, looking to build upon a thrilling overtime victory on Saturday.  Lourdes then opens Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play at Tam-o-Shanter on Saturday afternoon, entertaining Lawrence Tech.  

Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her first season both on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has a 1-1 (.500) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 281-248 (.531) record in her 21st season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

On the Air: Saturday's game against Lawrence Tech will be broadcast live on BCSN2 on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will be replayed on BCSN2 again at 3 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18.  In addition, BCSN will show the game on Sunday at 5 a.m.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Goshen, posting a pair of eight-point victories against the Maple Leafs.  Lourdes won the initial meeting between the two schools 82-74 on Oct. 29, 2011 in Goshen, Ind. before registering a 71-63 win on Nov. 23, 2012 in Indianapolis, Ind. as part of last year's Marian Thanksgiving Classic.  This will be the first meeting between the two schools at Tam-o-Shanter.  Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Lawrence Tech, winning both meetings between the two schools in WHAC play last season.  The Gray Wolves opened with a 76-63 victory in Southfield, Mich. on Nov. 17 before posting a 58-54 win over the Blue  Devils at Tam-o-Shanter on Jan. 16.  

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the season on Tuesday dropping a 70-50 decision to #4 Saint Francis (Ind.).  The Gray Wolves were within four points with under 10 minutes to play, but a 20-4 run by the Cougars put the game out of reach.  Tarynn Hampton led Lourdes with 14 points and nine rebounds.  On Saturday the Gray Wolves earned a 73-71 victory in overtime at Holy Cross (Ind.).  Lauren Tilden and Courtney Slepko each tallied 17 points while Tiffani Blackman added 14 points in the win.

Scouting Goshen: The Maple Leafs are still looking for their first victory of the season after falling at Calumet 78-66 on Saturday afternoon.  Jo'Mani Thomas leads Goshen in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.5 points per game as well as 6.8 boards per contest.  Liz Tecca adds 12.0 points per night while Tyra Carver is chipping in 11.8 points per game.  As a team Goshen is shooting 30.2% from the floor.  The game at Lourdes is the second on a seven-game road trip for the Maple Leafs.

Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have been idle since Oct. 30 when they posted a 72-50 victory over Holy Cross (Ind.) for their first victory of the season.  Jackie Hood leads Lawrence Tech in scoring averaging 16.0 points per game while Hali Butler and Allison Bicknell add 14.0 points per night. Maegan Branham is pulling down a team-leading 8.0 rebounds per game.  As a team the Blue Devils are shooting 35.9% from the floor.  Lawrence Tech plays an exhibition game on Thursday at Wayne State before heading to Lourdes.

Lourdes in WHAC Openers: The Gray Wolves are 1-1 all-time in WHAC openers heading into Saturday's game against Lawrence Tech.  Lourdes lost 93-59 to eighth-ranked Concordia (Mich.) in the 2011-2012 season opener before downing Lawrence Tech on the road 76-63 in last year's first conference game.    

Bonus Basketball: It took two games into the third season in program history before Lourdes played its first overtime game ever.  The Gray Wolves used the extra five minutes on Saturday to emerge with a 73-71 victory at Holy Cross (Ind.).

Spreading Around the Scoring: Through two games Lourdes has had five different players put up double figure scoring totals, with not one player doing so in both games.  Tarynn Hampton (14 pts.) and Tiffany Scott (10 pts.) led the way for the Gray Wolves in the opener against Saint Francis (Ind.) while Courtney Slepko (17 pts.), Lauren Tilden (17 pts.), and Tiffani Blackman (14 pts.) all scored at least 10 points in the win against Holy Cross (Ind.).

Hampton Earned All-Conference Accolades in 2012-2013: Tarynn Hampton returns for her senior season at Lourdes after becoming the Gray Wolves first conference honors ever last year, garnering Honorable Mention All-WHAC accolades.  Hampton led Lourdes averaging 12.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting 45.5% from the floor.

Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn, and just behind Lawrence Tech.  Davenport was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite for 2013-2014 after winning the conference title seven straight seasons.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2013-2014 are Tiffani Blackman and Tiffany Scott.  Blackman is a two-time team captain while Scott is in her first season as a team captain.

This and That: Lourdes has been to the free throw line 61 times through two games, but is shooting just 52.5% (32-of-61) from the charity stripe ... Lauren Tilden has played all but four minutes this season after logging 44 minutes against Holy Cross (Ind.) ... Tilden has seven assists and just one turnover, ranking third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio ... Courtney Slepko is shooting 55.6% from three-point range.
