Hampton’s and Blackman’s Double-Doubles Lift Lourdes Past Goshen

Box Score
Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.) and Tiffani Blackman (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) both registered double-doubles on Tuesday evening, helping Lourdes to a 64-52 victory over Goshen at Tam-o-Shanter to open a four-game homestand.

Hampton scored 18 points and pulled down a game-high 21 rebounds, including 13 on the offensive end, while Blackman scored 17 points and added 15 rebounds as Lourdes won its second straight game for just the second time in program history.

"Getting to the glass was huge for us tonight," head coach Karen McConnell stated after the win as Lourdes outrebounded the Maple Leafs 61-34, including a 27-9 margin on the offensive end.

It was Goshen that jumped on top quickly, scoring the game's first eight points.  Lourdes answered with an 18-3 run over the next nine minutes to take the lead for good, building a seven-point advantage.  Goshen cut the lead to two, 21-19, but Lourdes scored the final five points of the half, taking a 26-19 lead into the break.

The Maple Leafs pulled to within four, 35-31, with 13 minutes to play, only for Lourdes to go on an 18-6 run over the next six minutes to put the game out of reach, leading by 16 points.  The Gray Wolves led by double figures for the final nine minutes of the contest.

Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) added nine points for the Gray Wolves in 39 minutes of action while Jessica Durr (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton H.S.) chipped in eight points off of the bench, making all four field goal attempts.

"Lauren has done a nice job for us all year," McConnell said.  "She has played all but about five or six minutes total, and has run the point a lot.  Jessica Durr gave us a huge spark in the first half tonight when we were down."

Lourdes shot just 33.3% from the floor and 56.8% (21-of-37) from the free throw line while committing 22 turnovers.

"We need to make free throws and committed too many turnovers," McConnell concluded.  "It would be nice when we have the 10-12 point lead to keep building upon it."

Jo'Mani Thomas led Goshen (0-5) with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Tyra Carver added 11 points.  Lynnia Noel had 10 points off of the bench for the Maples Leafs.

Goshen shot 34.4% from the floor, making just 2-of-15 (13.3%) from beyond the arc.

Lourdes (2-1) will look to make it three straight victories on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.  The Gray Wolves will host Lawrence Tech beginning at 1 p.m. at Tam-o-Shanter in a game broadcast live on BCSN2.
