Lourdes women's basketball team cut an 18-point deficit down to six in the final minute on Wednesday evening, but the Gray Wolves would not get any closer, falling 74-66 to Madonna at The Activities Center in Livonia, Mich.

The Gray Wolves trailed by 18, 57-39, with just over 10 minutes to play in the contest before making a run. Three points each by
Tiffany Scott (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Sylvania Southview H.S.) and
Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.) pulled Lourdes to within 12 at the 5:36 mark.

A minute later Madonna had pushed the lead back to 17 when
Courtney Slepko (Seven Hills, Mich./Normandy H.S.) drained three straight three-pointers to make it a62-54 game with 2:52 to play. A
Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) three-pointer with 1:08 remaining made it a six-point contest, 65-59, but the Gray Wolves would not get any closer the rest of the way.

Madonna used a 17-4 run in the first half to build a 15-point advantage and took a 43-28 lead into the locker room. The Crusaders then built the lead up to 18 points early in the second half before the Gray Wolves made their run.

Hampton recorded her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while Tilden added 14 points. Slepko contributed 12 points, all on three-pointers as both her Tilden drained four triples in the contest.Â
Tiffani Blackman (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) pulled down 11 rebounds as the Gray Wolves outrebounded the Crusaders 45-34.

Rachel Melcher led Madonna (4-4, 3-1 WHAC) with 24 points while Tori Duffey added 20 points. Chelsea Williams contributed 14 more points for the Crusaders. Madonna shot 42.3% from the floor and committed just seven turnovers in the game.

Lourdes (3-5, 1-3) will return home on Saturday afternoon, stepping out of conference play to host NCAA Division II foe Slippery Rock. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Tam-o-Shanter.
