Women's Hoops Travels to Indiana Tech Saturday in Final Game Before Christmas

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon for the final time before Christmas as the Gray Wolves travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to face Indiana Tech in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.  The Gray Wolves are looking to snap a five-game losing skid and move up in the league standings heading into 2014.  

Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her first season both on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has a 3-8 (.273) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 283-255 (.526) record in her 21st season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Indiana Tech leads the all-time series against Lourdes 3-1 dating back to Jan. 7, 2012.  The Warriors and Gray Wolves split a pair of meetings last season with Indiana Tech winning 101-86 at Adrian College in December.  Lourdes tallied its first win ever against the Warriors in Fort Wayne, Ind. with a 72-62 on Feb. 2, 2013.  The all-time series is tied 1-1 at the Schaefer Center Gymnasium.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes shot just 21.4% from the floor over the final 20 minutes last Wednesday as the Gray Wolves fell at Aquinas 60-43.  Tiffany Scott made five three-pointers on her way to 17 points while Tarynn Hampton added 12 more points for Lourdes.  On Saturday, Lourdes led by one point at halftime, but Concordia (Mich.) shot 61.9% from the field in the second half to score a 67-61 victory at Tam-o-Shanter.  Tiffani Blackman registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Lauren Tilden added 12 points.  Emily Orsini also scored in double figures for the Gray Wolves with 10 points.

Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won three straight games following a 69-67 victory at home against Siena Heights last Saturday afternoon.  Indiana Tech did play an exhibition game on Wednesday at NCAA Division I IPFW, falling 101-45.  Rachael Kruse leads the way for the Warriors averaging 18.9 points per game while Chelsea Carradine adds 16.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest.  Ulyssia Richmond (12.9 ppg) and Sabine Filippovica (10.6 ppg) are both averaging in double figures as well for Indiana Tech.

Scott Connects From Long Range: Tiffany Scott had made just seven three-pointers all season entering the Aquinas contest, but the senior drained 5-of-10 attempts from behind the arc against the Saints.  Scott had never made more than three three-pointers in a game during her Lourdes career prior to the game.

Tilden Hands Out Assists: Lauren Tilden handed out five assists in each game last week, bringing her season average up to 3.6 helpers per game.  She has committed just a total of 21 turnovers while recording 40 assists on the year, and has five or more assists in a contest four times this year.

Hampton Crashes the Glass: Tarynn Hampton leads all of NAIA Division II averaging 5.2 offensive rebounds per game.  Hampton ranks sixth overall in total rebounding, averaging 11.1 rebounds per night which includes five double-figure rebounding efforts this season, including a career-best 25 boards against Michigan-Dearborn.

Double Trouble: Lourdes has already tallied eight double-doubles from two different players.  Tiffani Blackman added her fourth double-double of the season on Saturday against Concordia (Mich.), scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.  She is just shy of averaging a double-double with 10.8 points and 9.6 boards per contest.  Tarynn Hampton has also registered four double-doubles on the year, while averaging a double-double with 13.2 points and 11.1 rebounds per contest.  She had three straight double-doubles from Nov. 21-26.  

Blocking Shots: Tiffany Scott ranks 38th in the country averaging 1.18 blocks per game this season.  Her 13 rejections account for more than two-thirds of the Gray Wolves blocks this year.  Lauren Tilden has four of the other six blocks this season, despite being just five-foot, five-inches tall.

Logging Minutes: Lourdes has four players that are averaging nearly 30 minutes per game on the floor.  Lauren Tilden leads the way, playing 37.0 minutes per night.  She has played all but 33 minutes total in 2013-2014.  Tiffani Blackman (30.7 mpg) and Tarynn Hampton (30.6 mpg) also are playing more than 30 minutes per night while Tiffany Scott is averaging 29.9 minutes per contest.

Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn, and just behind Lawrence Tech.  Davenport was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite for 2013-2014 after winning the conference title seven straight seasons.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2013-2014 are Tiffani Blackman and Tiffany Scott.  Blackman is a two-time team captain while Scott is in her first season as a team captain.

This and That: Lourdes is averaging 6.2 three-pointers per game as a team this season ... the Gray Wolves are shooting just 58.3% from the free throw line, with just one player, Tiffany Scott (78.6%) over 70% (minimum 10 attempts) ... Lourdes is outrebounding teams by 5.8 boards per night.
