Lourdes Women Set for Final Two Games Before Final Exams

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes takes to the floor for the final two times before final exams as the Gray Wolves play a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests this week.  Lourdes will travel to Aquinas on Wednesday evening for a battle with the first place Saints before hosting Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon in the final home game of the 2013 calendar year.  

On the Air: Saturday's game against Concordia (Mich.) will be broadcast live on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will be replayed on BCSN again at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday as well as at 4 a.m. on Monday.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the game on Sunday at 2:30 a.m. as well as at 11:30 p.m.

Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her first season both on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has a 3-6 (.333) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 283-253 (.528) record in her 21st season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 4-0 dating back to Nov. 30, 2011.  Last year the Saints posted a 75-69 victory over the Gray Wolves at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green and a 65-44 win in Grand Rapids, Mich.  Lourdes is 0-2 all-time at Aquinas.  Concordia (Mich.) is 4-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 27, 2011, the Gray Wolves' inaugural game.  Last year the Cardinals notched a 91-68 win in Ann Arbor, Mich. before downing the Gray Wolves 70-45 at Tam-o-Shanter.  Concordia is 2-0 all-time at Tam-o-Shanter.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes cut an 18-point deficit down to six on Tuesday evening before falling 74-66 at Madonna in WHAC play.  Tarynn Hampton led the Gray Wolves with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Lauren Tilden added 14 points.  Saturday at Tam-o-Shanter Lourdes led Slippery Rock by eight at halftime before shooting just 16.1% from the floor in the second half, falling to The Rock 68-57.  Tiffany Scott led the Gray Wolves with 16 points while Courtney Slepko added 13 more.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won two straight games and seven of their first eight this year following a 77-58 victory at home against Concordia (Mich.) last Tuesday.  Allison Heberlein leads Aquinas in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.  Taelor Sanders adds 12.0 points per game while Brooklynne Lane contributes 10.5 points per night.  Aquinas is shooting 43.1% from the floor as a team this year.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the week having lost three straight games following a 77-58 setback at Aquinas last Tuesday.  Concordia hosts Indiana Tech on Wednesday before traveling to Lourdes on Saturday afternoon.  Brooke Adams leads Concordia and ranks second in NAIA Division II averaging 23.8 points per game while also pulling down 7.3 rebounds per contest.  Becca Sabol adds 10.6 points and a team-leading 9.1 rebounds per game while Tiffany Karger scores 10.5 points per night.

Taking Care of the Basketball of Late: Lourdes handled the basketball the best it has all season last week, committing a season-low 13 turnovers at Madonna and just 15 miscues, its second lowest total of the year, against Slippery Rock.  On the season the Gray Wolves are averaging 20.1 turnovers per contest.

Hampton Crashes the Glass: Tarynn Hampton leads all of NAIA Division II averaging 5.7 offensive rebounds per game.  Hampton ranks second overall in total rebounding, averaging 12.1 rebounds per night which includes five double-figure rebounding efforts this season, including a career-best 25 boards against Michigan-Dearborn.

Double Trouble: Lourdes has already tallied seven double-doubles from two different players.  Tarynn Hampton has registered four double-doubles on the year, while averaging a double-double with 13.9 points and 12.1 rebounds per contest.  She had three straight double-doubles from Nov. 21-26.  Tiffani Blackman has added three double-doubles of her own this year, and her season averages are just shy of one, with 10.8 points and 9.7 boards per contest.

Scoring Leaders: Lourdes has had three different players lead the team in scoring over the last three games, and a total of five different individuals lead the Gray Wolves throughout the course of the season.  Lauren Tilden, Tarynn Hampton, and Tiffany Scott have led the way over the last three contests while Tiffani Blackman and Courtney Slepko have also earned the team's top scoring honor earlier this year.

Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn, and just behind Lawrence Tech.  Davenport was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite for 2013-2014 after winning the conference title seven straight seasons.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2013-2014 are Tiffani Blackman and Tiffany Scott.  Blackman is a two-time team captain while Scott is in her first season as a team captain.

This and That: Lourdes shot a season-best 70.6% from the free throw line on Saturday against Slippery Rock ... Courtney Slepko is shooting 44.7% from three-point range, 21st best in the nation ... Lauren Tilden's 2.8 triples per night also rank 21st best in NAIA Division II ... Lourdes has had the same five starters in all nine games this season.
