Lourdes Women Fall Just Short of Concordia (Mich.)

An 11-0 run by Concordia (Mich.) early in the second half proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals defeated Lourdes 67-61 at Tam-o-Shanter.
 
Tiffani Blackman (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) tallied her fourth double-double of the season for the Gray Wolves, scoring a team-high 18 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.  Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) added 12 points and five assists while Emily Orsini (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.) tallied 10 more points for Lourdes.
 
Concordia raced out to a quick 10-2 lead just over six minutes into the contest as Lourdes struggled from the floor early.  The Gray Wolves made just their second field goal of the game nine minutes into the contest as part of a 13-4 run which put the hosts on top for the first time on the afternoon, 15-14, with just under eight minutes left.
 
The remainder of the first half remained tight, with Lourdes forging a five-point lead, 26-21, in the final two minutes before settling for a 28-27 lead at the break.
 
Lourdes scored the first five points of the second half to build a 33-27 advantage before going in a five minute draught that allowed the Cardinals to score 11 straight points as part of an 18-3 spurt which put Concordia on top 45-36 with 10:32 to play. 
 
The Gray Wolves closed to within one, 55-54, on a Blackman put back with 3:22to play, but was unable to tie the game the rest of the way.
 
Brooke Adams led Concordia (4-6, 2-4 WHAC) with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, while Tiffany Karger added 16 points.  Megan Stone was the third Cardinal in double figures, finishing the game with 13 points while Becca Sabol had a team-high 11 boards. 
 
The Cardinals shot 53.3% from the floor to overcome 23 turnovers while Lourdes shot just 33.9% on the afternoon.
 
Lourdes (3-8, 1-5) will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. next Saturday afternoon to face Indiana Tech.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
