Lourdes University continued its stellar play on Wednesday evening, extending its school record win streak to eight straight games with a 55-49 victory against the University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Gymnasium in Lima, Ohio.
Corey Harvey (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson H.S.) scored 26 points, the most by a Gray Wolf this season, helping Lourdes rebound from a two-point halftime deficit to earn its 14
th win in its last 16 outings. The senior made 11-of-18 shots from the floor while playing 37 minutes.
As a team Lourdes shot 52.2% from the floor to make up for 17 turnovers on the evening while the Gray Wolves, the top team in NAIA Division II in field goal percentage defense, limited the Racers to just 29.6% shooting for the night.
The first half was close throughout, with neither team holding a lead larger than four points until a Harvey jumper with 4:33 remaining put the Gray Wolves on top 22-16. UNOH answered with a 10-2 run to close the half though, and took a 26-24 lead into the locker room.
The game remained tight for the first nine minutes of the second half and following a Racer basket with 11:06 to play in the game, the contest was knotted for the ninth time on the night, 37-37.
A 7-0 run by Lourdes, all coming on three straight hoops by Harvey, gave the Gray Wolves a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way. Northwestern Ohio would close to within three, 49-46, with 2:04 to play, but Harvey answered with a jumper and
Jerome Talton (East Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw H.S.) scored a big basket inside to extend the lead to six.
Alex Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/Nordonia H.S.) added a double-double for Lourdes with 12 points and 11 rebounds while
Enique Mason (Indianapolis, Ind./Fishburne Military H.S.) chipped in eight points off of the bench.
Derrick Tate led Northwestern Ohio (16-13, 11-10 WHAC) with 17 points and nine rebounds while Johnny Elliott added 15 points. UNOH was just 4-of-24 from three-point range in the contest and the Racers were outrebounded 36-27 for the night.
Lourdes (21-7, 16-5) remains in a second place tie with Madonna, one game behind Davenport in the conference standings heading into Saturday's regular season finale. The Gray Wolves will host Cornerstone on Senior Night with tip-off slated for 8:30 p.m. at Owens Community College.
