Lourdes wrapped up the road portion of the 2012-2013 schedule on Wednesday afternoon dropping a 91-75 contest to the University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Gymnasium in Lima, Ohio.
The Gray Wolves were unable to stop Shayne Warman who scored 36 points for the Racers, making 14-of-26 shots from the floor, including six three-pointers.
“We did not play any defense tonight,” head coach
Zareth Gray stated after the contest. “That is completely unlike us and it was quite disappointing.”
After Lourdes scored the game's first basket, the Racers scored the next 11 points to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night. Lourdes battled back with a 10-2 run of its own to pull within one following a
Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) three-pointer.
UNOH responded with another run, increasing its lead to 30-19 with seven minutes to play before halftime, and another 6-0 run before halftime gave the Racers a 45-29 advantage heading into the locker room.
The Racers increased their lead to as many as 22 with eight minutes to play in the game before the Gray Wolves fought back with one last run. A 15-2 Lourdes run pulled the Gray Wolves to within nine, 81-72, following a pair of
Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.) free throws at the 3:42 mark. However, Northwestern Ohio responded with the next eight points to secure the victory.
Hampton led Lourdes with 15 points and 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season while Tilden and
Tiffany Scott (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Sylvania Southview H.S.) added 13 points each.
Emily Orsini (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.) and
Courtney Slepko (Cleveland, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) tallied 12 points each for the Gray Wolves.
Lourdes shot 37.7% from the floor for the game but made 12 three-pointers, including four by Slepko and three each by Tilden and Scott.
“We did a great job of shooting outside today,” Gray added.
Sammi Dervisevic and Madison Coldren scored 14 points each for Northwestern Ohio (10-19, 7-14 WHAC) while Kylie Kahlig and Angie Cates each added 10 points.
As a team the Racers shot 47.4% from the floor and committed just 11 turnovers.
Lourdes (9-20, 6-15) will close out the season on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves host Cornerstone. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Owens Community College on Senior Night, in which
Ty Ali (Chicago, Ill./Rich South H.S.) will be honored prior to tip-off.
