Lourdes Suffers Home Defeat to #24 Siena Heights

Box Score
Lourdes was held to just 21.3% shooting on the evening and made just 2-of-19 from three-point range in suffering a 59-35 setback against 24th-ranked Siena Heights on Wednesday evening at Tam-o-Shanter.

The Saints used a 28-10 advantage in the paint and a 46-35 edge on the glass to earn the victory.

“Our defensive effort was definitely there tonight,” head coach Zareth Gray said.  “To hold a team like Siena Heights to just 59 points should allow you to have a chance to win the game.  We missed way too many layups and needed to hit some outside jumpers to pull them away from the double team in the posts.”

Both teams started slowly on offense before the Saints went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-5 lead midway through the first stanza.  Lourdes hung tough, trailing by just four, 15-11, at the eight minute mark, but another 7-0 spurt by Siena Heights built an 11-point advantage, which would prove to be the halftime margin.

Lourdes scored the first basket of the second half to pull within 26-17, but that would be as close as the Gray Wolves would get the rest of the evening.  Siena Heights scored nine unanswered points to increase the advantage to 20, 43-23, at the 10:50 mark and went on one more 9-0 run before the night's end.

Tiffany Scott (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Sylvania Southview H.S.) led Lourdes with 12 points and eight rebounds while Tiffani Blackman (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) added eight points.

Sierra Calhoun paced Siena Heights (19-8, 14-5 WHAC) with 14 points while Chandler Levit added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Lourdes (8-19, 5-14) will play at Tam-o-Shanter for the final time in the 2012-2013 season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Marygrove.  Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
