Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: For the second consecutive season Lourdes has earned a bid to the NAIA Division II National Championship after posting a school-record 22 victories already this season. The Gray Wolves will battle seventh-seeded, and sixth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday morning in the first round of the tournament.
Head Coach Andre Smith: In his third season both on the Lourdes bench and overall as a men's collegiate head coach,
Andre Smith has a 51-43 (.543) record. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Indiana Wesleyan are meeting for the first time ever on the hardwood. In fact, the Gray Wolves and Wildcats are meeting for the first time in any sport in just the third year of athletics overall at Lourdes.
Wrapping Up Recent Action: Lourdes went on an early 18-4 run on Feb. 21 and the Gray Wolves led by double figures for most of the contest in a 65-55 win over sixth-seeded Concordia (Mich.) at Tam-o-Shanter in the WHAC quarterfinals.
Corey Harvey led four Gray Wolves in double figures with 19 points while grabbing eight rebounds and
Dorel Sutherland added 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. The Gray Wolves then fell to #15 Madonna on Feb. 23 in the WHAC semifinals. Lourdes led 28-19 at the break but a 14-2 run to start the second half by the Crusaders proved to be the difference.
Alex Davis led Lourdes with 10 points while
Ken Smith added eight more.
Scouting Indiana Wesleyan: The Wildcats won the Crossroads League regular season title before falling 81-69 to Huntington in the opening round of the conference tournament. Conference Player of the Year Patrick Hopkins averaged 17.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for Indiana Wesleyan this season while Jordan Weidner earned First Team All-Crossroads League accolades after tallying 17.5 points per night. Greg Tonagal was the conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
NAIA Tournament History: Lourdes is 0-1 all-time in the NAIA Division II National Championships having made its lone appearance last season. The Gray Wolves earned one of the WHAC's two automatic bids last season but suffered a 58-49 loss in the first round to second-seeded Oregon Tech. This year marked the first at-large bid for the Gray Wolves in program history.
Smith Named Coach of the Year: Andre Smith was named the WHAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Gray Wolves to a school-record 22 victories thus far this season and a third place finish in the conference in just the program's third season. Lourdes posted a semifinal appearance in the conference tournament as well.
Conference Honors: Corey Harvey was named a First Team All-WHAC selection while
Alex Davis garnered Honorable Mention All-Conference and All-Newcomer Team accolades as the postseason awards were announced.
Elvin Butler was named to the WHAC's All-Defensive Team while
Jake DuPree was selected to the Champions of Character Team.
Against the Tournament Field: Lourdes posted a 1-4 record against the NAIA Division II National Championship field this season. The Gray Wolves were 1-2 against Madonna while going 0-2 against Davenport.
Nation's Top Defensive Team: Lourdes defense ranks tops among all NAIA Division II schools allowing just 51.0 points per game this season. The Gray Wolves also rank first in opponents' field goal percentage. The Gray Wolves are limiting the opposition to just 36.4% shooting from the floor this season. The Gray Wolves have held seven opponents under 40 points this year, including a school record-setting performance allowing just 21 points against Michigan-Dearborn on Jan. 26. Thirteen of the 30 opponents this year failed to reach 50 points.
Team Leaders: Corey Harvey leads Lourdes in both scoring and rebounding averaging 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Jake DuPree is handing out 2.0 assists per night while tallying 1.85 steals per game.
Enique Mason is the team's top shot blocker with 0.7 rejections per contest.
Another Ranked Opponent: The game against Indiana Wesleyan will mark the seventh contest this season in which the Gray Wolves have faced a ranked foe. Lourdes is 2-4 against the top-25 this year with a victory over #20 Indiana Tech and #17 Madonna. All-time the Gray Wolves are 5-12 against ranked opponents.
Win Total Keeps Climbing by (At Least) Five: Lourdes has increased its victory total in each of its first three seasons in program history. The Gray Wolves won 12 games in the inaugural 2010-2011 season before adding five more victories to the total with 17 in 2011-2012. This year Lourdes has already won five more games than last year, entering the WHAC semifinals with 22.
Record-Setting Win Streak: Lourdes set a new school record with its eight-game winning streak from Jan. 23 through Feb. 13, surpassing the previous mark of six set from Jan. 7-25, 2012. The Gray Wolves have had three winning streaks of five or more game this season.
Team Captains: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season. Serving in the leadership role for 2012-2013 are

Remy Fleurima.
