Men's Hoops Prepares for Two More WHAC Opponents

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Coming off of an upset victory over #10 Davenport last weekend, Lourdes hosts second place Madonna at Tam-o-Shanter on Wednesday evening in another key Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference battle.  The Gray Wolves will then head out on the road Saturday evening, traveling to Michigan-Dearborn to begin a stretch where four out of five contests are away from home.

On the Air: Wednesday's game against Madonna will be broadcast on BCSN and BCSN2 on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will air on BCSN at 3:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 4:30 p.m. on Thursday as well as at 1 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the game on Wednesday at midnight,  as well as Thursday at noon and 8:30 p.m. The game can also be seen Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Head Coach Andre Smith: In his third season both on the Lourdes bench and overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Andre Smith has a 63-52 (.548) record.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.  Smith was the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2012-2013.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 5-4 all-time against Madonna dating back to Nov. 6, 2010 after the Crusaders defeated the Gray Wolves earlier this season.  The Gray Wolves hold a 2-1 advantage against Madonna at Tam-o-Shanter.  Lourdes is 4-1 all-time against Michigan-Dearborn dating back to Jan. 14, 2012 after defeating the Wolverines earlier this year.  The teams have split two previous meetings in Dearborn, Mich.

Earlier This Season: Lourdes led by one at halftime, but #17 Madonna shot 63.6% from the floor in the second half to defeat the Gray Wolves 67-57 on Nov. 26 in Livonia, Mich.  Elvin Butler led Lourdes with 31 points and eight rebounds while Bobby Naubert scored 29 points for the Crusaders.  Lourdes had four players score in double figures on Nov. 20, and cruised to a 67-46 victory over Michigan-Dearborn at Tam-o-Shanter.  Eric Worthey paced the Gray Wolves with 16 points while Jamiel Strickland and Gage Throgmorton each scored 11 points for the Wolverines.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lawrence Tech made 10 three-pointers on Wednesday evening on the way to a 59-50 victory over Lourdes in Southfield, Mich.  Jerah'me Williams led the Gray Wolves with 10 points in the loss.  On Saturday, Lourdes jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and held on for a 75-71 upset victory over #10 Davenport at Tam-o-Shanter.  Zach Steinmetz led Lourdes with 24 points and 15 rebounds in the win.

Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have won seven straight games following a 75-67 victory at Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon.  Bobby Naubert leads Madonna averaging 18.4 points per game while shooting 51.0% from the floor.  Naubert also leads the nation averaging 6.9 assists per game.  Travis Schuba adds 14.5 points per game while Fred Williams chips in 12.8 points per contest.  

Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines have dropped four straight contests following a 75-59 setback at Aquinas on Saturday.  Michigan-Dearborn travels to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes on Saturday.  Jamiel Strickland leads the Wolverines averaging 11.9 points per game while Gage Throgmorton adds 10.3 points per night.  

Schedule Change: Lourdes regular season finale against Aquinas has been moved to Owens Community College in Perrysburg due to a scheduling conflict at Tam-o-Shanter.  The game will also tip off one hour earlier than originally schedule, with the ball now being tossed into the air at 2 p.m.

Coaches vs. Cancer: Wednesday night's game against Madonna will be the annual Coaches vs. Cancer contest.  The coaches for both teams will be wearing sneakers with their suits, and the program will be collecting donations at the game with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Knocking Off Another Ranked Foe: Davenport entered Saturday's game ranked #10 in NAIA Division II, but for the second time this season the Gray Wolves defeated the top-10 Panthers.  Lourdes is now 2-5 this season against top-25 foes and 7-18 in the four-year program history.

Limiting Turnovers: Lourdes committed a season-low seven turnovers last Wednesday evening in the loss at Lawrence Tech.  By taking care of the basketball, the Gray Wolves surrendered just six points off of their miscues all night long.

Double Trouble: Zach Steinmetz notched yet another double-double with a season-high 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the upset of #10 Davenport last Saturday.  Steinmetz now has eight double-doubles on the season, including five over his last seven games.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2013-2014 are Elvin Butler and Jake DuPree, both first time captains.

This and That: Lourdes ranks fourth in the country allowing just 62.3 points per game ... opponents are shooting just 29.6% from three-point range against the Gray Wolves, fifth best in NAIA Division II ... Jerome Talton scored a career high 17 points in the win over Davenport ... Lourdes is outrebounding teams by 7.4 boards per game this season, 12th best in the country ... Zach Steinmetz is the only Gray Wolf to start all 20 games this year ... 10 different players have started at least one game.
