Women's Basketball Hosts Madonna, Travel to Michigan-Dearborn this Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes plays its second straight home game on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Madonna at Tam-o-Shanter.  Lourdes takes to the road on Saturday night, traveling to Michigan-Dearborn to face a Wolverine team that is tied with the Gray Wolves in the standings.  The contest in Dearborn, Mich. is the first of four road games in Lourdes next five contests.

On the Air: Wednesday's game against Madonna will be broadcast live on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will also be replayed on BCSN at 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday as well as at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the game on Thursday at 2:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:30 p.m. as well as Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her first season both on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has a 4-15 (.211) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 284-262 (.520) record in her 21st season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Madonna holds a 5-0 advantage all-time in the series dating back to Jan. 11, 2012 after winning earlier this season in Livonia, Mich.  The Crusaders are 2-0 against the Gray Wolves at Tam-o-Shanter.  Michigan-Dearborn holds a 3-2 edge in the series dating back to Jan. 14, 2012.  The Gray Wolves won the first meeting this season at Tam-o-Shanter though.  The Wolverines are 2-0 against Lourdes in Dearborn, Mich.

Earlier This Season: Lourdes tried to mount a second half rally after falling behind by 15 at halftime, but Madonna held on for a 74-66 victory on Nov. 26.  Tarynn Hampton scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Gray Wolves while Rachel Melcher led the Crusaders with 24 points.  Hampton also posted a double-double with 14 points and a school-record 25 rebounds in the first meeting with Michigan-Dearborn as the Gray Wolves notched a 64-55 win on Nov. 21 a Tam-o-Shanter.  Jalissa Williams led the Wolverines with 15 points and 10 boards.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes shot just 29.6% on Wednesday evening in suffering a 70-47 loss at Lawrence Tech.  Tarynn Hampton led the Gray Wolves with 16 points.  Fourth-ranked Davenport raced out to a 26-2 lead on Saturday afternoon on the way to a 75-41 win over Lourdes at Tam-o-Shanter.  Tiffany Scott led the Gray Wolves with 14 points.

Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon with an 85-73 victory over Concordia (Mich.) on the road.  Rachel Melcher leads four players averaging in double figures, scoring 15.9 points per game, while also grabbing a team-best 8.1 rebounds per night.  Chelsea Williams adds 14.8 points per contest while Tori Duffey scores 14.3 points per game.

Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines enter the week having snapped a four-game losing streak with a 64-53 upset at #13 Aquinas last Saturday.  Michigan-Dearborn travels to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes.  Jalissa Williams leads the Wolverines averaging 15.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while Danielle Cowart adds 11.8 points per night.  

Schedule Change: Lourdes regular season finale against Aquinas has been moved to Owens Community College in Perrysburg due to a scheduling conflict at Tam-o-Shanter.  The game will also tip off one hour earlier than originally schedule, with the ball now being tossed into the air at noon.

Another Double-Double for Hampton: Tarynn Hampton notched her sixth double-double of the season on Saturday against #4 Davenport, tallying 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  She now has 15 double-doubles over the last two seasons.  For the season Hampton is averaging a double-double, scoring 12.6 points and grabbing 10.1 rebounds per contest.

From Long Distance: Lauren Tilden ranks 29th nationally averaging 2.6 three-pointers per game this season.  She is shooting 34.3% from beyond the arc, having made 49 triples entering the week.  As a team Lourdes is averaging 5.9 threes per game and the Gray Wolves are shooting 31.5% as a team from long range, both marks that rank in the top 50 of NAIA Division II.  

Crashing the Glass: Tarynn Hampton ranks second in all of NAIA Division II averaging 4.6 offensive rebounds per game.  Hampton ranks 15th overall in total rebounding, averaging 10.1 rebounds per night.  Hampton has had at least five rebounds in every game this year, and has eight double figure rebound efforts, and 13 games of nine or more boards.  Her season-high is 25 against Michigan-Dearborn.  As a team Lourdes ranks 14th in the nation pulling down 15.6 offensive rebounds per contest, and its +2.9 rebounding margin is 37th best in the country.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2013-2014 are Tiffani Blackman and Tiffany Scott.  Blackman is a two-time team captain while Scott is in her first season as a team captain.

This and That: Tarynn Hampton is shooting a team best 45.6% from the floor this season ... Courtney Slepko is shooting 92.3% (12-of-13) from the free throw line ... Lauren Tilden leads the team with a 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio ... Lauren Tilden, Tiffani Blackman, and Tiffany Scott have started all 19 games this season for the Gray Wolves.
