Lourdes scored the game's first 11 points on Wednesday evening but Madonna responded with 24 of the next 26 to take control of the game on the way to a 61-49 victory over the Gray Wolves at Tam-o-Shanter.

The Gray Wolf defense forced the Crusaders to miss their first 11 shots from the floor, holding the visitors scoreless for the first 7:31 while building an 11-0 lead. Lourdes went cold from the floor itself after building the lead, and was held scoreless for nearly eight minutes as Madonna took the lead.

Madonna scored 17 unanswered points to begin the 24-2 run, and had a 24-13 lead at the 3:37 mark of the first half. Travis Schuba then banked in a contested 30-footer at the buzzer to give the Crusaders a 29-19 lead at the break.

The Crusaders extended their lead to 16 over the first 4:19 of the second half and eventually had the advantage to as many as 20, 47-27, with 11:43 to play in the game. Lourdes tried to cut into the deficit, closing to within 11, 53-42, at the 5:45 mark. The Gray Wolves had the ball but a three-point attempt missed the mark, as did all seven triple tries by Lourdes on the evening. The hosts were never able to get the deficit into single digits in the second half.

Jake DuPree (Toledo, Ohio/Whiteford H.S.) led the way for Lourdes with 13 points while
Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) added his sixth double-double in his last eight games, finishing the night with 12 points and 14 boards.

Schuba led Madonna (15-6, 11-2 WHAC) with 15 points while Bobby Naubert added 10 more for the Crusaders.

Lourdes (12-9, 7-6) will take to the road on Saturday evening, traveling to Dearborn, Mich. to battle the Wolverines of Michigan-Dearborn. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the UMD Fieldhouse.
