Lourdes Falls on Buzzer Beater to Madonna

Box Score
Lourdes had four players score in double figures but Madonna scored on a put back as time expired and the Crusaders defeated the Gray Wolves 72-70 on Wednesday evening at Tam-o-Shanter.

With the game tied at 70 with 4.4 seconds to play, Lizzy Otten missed a three-pointer but Chelsea Williams picked up the rebound and laid the ball in as the horn sounded to give the visitors the victory.  Lourdes built a six-point lead, 64-58, with 6:09 to play following a pair of free throws by Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.).  Madonna answered with a 12-3 run over the next five minutes to take a three-point lead heading into the final minute.

Tiffany Scott (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Sylvania Southview H.S.) recorded a steal and scored to cut the Gray Wolf deficit to one, 70-69.  Lourdes again forced a turnover and Tilden was fouled with 30 seconds remaining.  She split the pair, tying the game at 70.  After a Madonna miss, Lourdes turned the ball over with the 4.4 seconds left, giving the Crusaders the final shot.

The game was close throughout, with Madonna never leading by more than five and Lourdes' six-point lead being its largest of the day.  The Crusaders led 35-32 at the break before Lourdes scored eight of the first 10 points in the second half to take a three-point lead, 40-37, following a Tilden triple.  The game then changed hands eight times and was tied eight times as well throughout the second half before the Gray Wolves went on a 6-0 spurt to take the 64-58 lead.

Scott led Lourdes with a career-high 21 points, making 7-of-14 shots from the floor including three triples.  Tilden and Tiffani Blackman (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) each added 14 points for the Gray Wolves while Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.) recorded her seventh double-double of the year tallying 13 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
