Lourdes fought back from a nine-point second half deficit, and took the lead briefly, but in the end came up two points short on Saturday evening, dropping a 57-55 decision to Michigan-Dearborn at the UMD Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.

Lourdes trailed 43-34 with 11:34 to play in the game before going on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes, capped by a three-pointer by
Ron Dukes (Saint Louis, Mo./North County Christian H.S.), to take a one-point lead. The Wolverines scored on a second chance opportunity on their next possession though to retake the lead, and never relinquished it the rest of the way.

Michigan-Dearborn extended the lead to seven, 55-48, at the two minute mark before Lourdes tried to make one last run. Five free throws over the next minute, the last two coming by
Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.), cut the deficit to two, 55-53, with just over one minute to play. The Wolverines split a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining before fouling
KyJuan Grace (Grove City, Ohio/Westland H.S.) with six seconds left. He made both free throws to pull the Gray Wolves within one.

The Wolverines again split a pair at the line with four seconds left, but Lourdes last second attempt to tie missed the mark.

The hosts took the early lead, 15-9, midway through the first half before Lourdes battled back to take the lead 21-20, at the eight minute mark. The Gray Wolves extended the lead to five, 27-22, before Michigan-Dearborn went on an 11-0 run and eventually took a 33-29 lead into halftime. The Wolverines went on a 7-0 spurt early in the second half to build the nine point lead, its largest of the day.

Dukes and
Elvin Butler (Akron, Ohio/East H.S.) led Lourdes with 15 points each while Steinmetz added a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. The Gray Wolves shot just 29.2% from the floor on the evening though, including a 21.4% clip in the second half.

Lourdes outrebounded Michigan-Dearborn 42-37, including 21-9 on the offensive end, but the Wolverines outscored the Gray Wolves 12-10 in second chance points.

Brandon Cole paced Michigan-Dearborn (5-16, 3-11 WHAC) with 16 points and six assists as the Wolverines shot 46% from the field on the night.

Lourdes (12-10, 7-7) will remain on the road Wednesday evening, traveling to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Concordia (Mich.). Tip-off against the Cardinals is set for 7:30 p.m. at Cardinal Fieldhouse.
