Box Score
Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.) made two free throws with 15 seconds remaining to force overtime on Saturday evening and Lourdes scored the first six points of the extra session to down Michigan-Dearborn 64-60 at the UMD Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
Â
The victory is the second overtime win of the year for the Gray Wolves and is also the team's first road Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference triumph of the year.
Â
The Gray Wolves trailed by three with under a minute to play when
Courtney Slepko (Cleveland, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) split a pair of free throws with 26 seconds to play. She got her own rebound but had her put back attempt blocked before Hampton grabbed the board and was fouled. She made both charity tosses to tie the game. Michigan-Dearborn's last second attempt to win in regulation missed the mark and the game headed to overtime.
Â
Tiffany Scott (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Sylvania Southview H.S.) put Lourdes on top with a basket during the first possession of overtime and Hampton followed one possession later with a second chance bucket to increase the lead to four. Scott added two more free throws with 3:15 to play in overtime to increase the lead to six and the Gray Wolves never trailed throughout the period.
Â
Michigan-Dearborn closed to within one, 61-60, with 48 seconds left, but a free throw by Slepko and two more by Hampton in the final 36 seconds secured the victory.
Â
Lourdes took an early eight point lead, 23-15, following a Slepko triple with 7:08 to play in the first half and led by as many as 10 in the opening stanza before settling for a 29-21 advantage at halftime.
Â
The Wolverines scored the first seven points of the second half to cut the Lourdes lead to one before the Gray Wolves extended the advantage back to eight. Michigan-Dearborn eventually tied the game at 43 with 8:39 to play in the second half and led by as many as four in the closing minutes before the Gray Wolves battled back to tie the game in the finals seconds.
Â
Hampton led Lourdes with 20 points and 11 rebounds while
Tiffani Blackman (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) also added a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Slepko poured in 14 points as the Gray Wolves.
Â
Jalissa Williams led three Michigan-Dearborn (3-17, 2-12 WHAC) players in double figures with 21 points while grabbing 11 boards. Danielle Cowart added 12 points while Andrea Collins added 11 more for the Wolverines.
Â
