A 13-3 run by 25
th-ranked Lourdes with under eight minutes to play on Saturday afternoon helped the Gray Wolves avoid a home upset at the hands of Marygrove, as the hosts defeated the Mustangs 75-60 at Tam-o-Shanter.

With the victory, Lourdes moved back into a tie for second place in a tight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Despite having yet to win a game in conference play, Marygrove kept the game close for the first 32 minutes, and led for a good bit of the first half. Lourdes took an early 8-3 lead but the Mustangs fought back and built an 18-13 lead of its own with 10 minutes to play before intermission. Marygrove's lead grew to nine, 28-19, before Lourdes scored 14 of the next 15 points, including 12 straight to retake the lead, 33-29. The two teams ended up heading into the locker room tied at 33 after a Mustang basket as time expired.

The second half was tight for the first 12 minutes. Neither team led by more than four during the first 10 minutes, and Marygrove held a one-point advantage, 48-47, with 11 minutes to play. Lourdes held just a one point lead, 53-52, with eight minutes to play before going on the 13-3 run to push the margin to 11, 66-5, with just over two minutes to play. The Gray Wolves made all nine of its free throws over the final 2:15 to secure the victory.

Lourdes shot 53.2% from the floor on the afternoon, but committed 25 turnovers which allowed Marygrove to hang around. The Mustangs shot just 31.8% from the field on the day.

Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) led the way for Lourdes with 22 points, one off of his career high, while pulling down 15 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.Â
Eric Worthey (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian H.S.) also had a double-double, his first of the year, with 16 points and 11 boards.Â
Jerome Talton (East Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw H.S.) came off the bench to chip in 12 points for the Gray Wolves.

Lourdes outrebounded Marygrove 50-28 and dominated the paint, outscoring the Mustangs 46-18 in the lane.

Darryll Dixon led Marygrove (1-15, 0-8 WHAC) with 18 points while Diante Taylor added 17 more. Jimmy Stewart had 11 points as three Mustangs tallied double figures.

Lourdes (11-5, 6-2) will take to the road on Wednesday evening, traveling to Lima, Ohio. The Gray Wolves will face Northwestern Ohio beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Racer Gymnasium.
