Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes opens up its fourth season of women's basketball with three games in five days. The Gray Wolves open the season on Thursday evening at home, hosting Rochester (Mich.) before traveling to Wilberforce for a Saturday matinee. The road trip continues on Monday night when Lourdes heads to Cincinnati Christian. Â
Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her second season on the Lourdes bench
Karen McConnell has a 6-23 (.207) record. Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 286-270 (.514) record in her 22nd season. She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 0-2 all-time against Rochester (Mich.). The Warriors defeated the Gray Wolves 64-59 at Tam-o-Shanter on Jan. 23, 2012 in the first meeting between the two schools before posting a 50-45 win on Dec. 19, 2012 in Rochester, Mich. Lourdes is 1-1 all-time against Wilberforce. The Gray Wolves notched an 88-65 victory at home on Feb. 6, 2012 before falling to the Bulldogs 89-75 in Wilberforce, Ohio on Nov. 3, 2012. Lourdes and Cincinnati Christian have never met one another on the hardwood.
Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves finished the season 6-23 overall and 4-18 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, placing 10th in the WHAC standings. The Gray Wolves did not qualify for the WHAC tournament.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors opened the season with a pair of victories over Redeemer from Canada. Erica Schwartz leads four players averaging in double figures for the Warriors after tallying 19 points per game and shooting 63.2% from the floor. Jackie Highstreet added 18 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest while Leeza Donald and Sam Charney each tallied 12 points per night. Rochester posted a 12-19 record in 2013-2014 and has just one senior on this year's squad.
Scouting Wilberforce: The Bulldogs opened the season with a 84-81 setback at home against Brescia on Tuesday evening. Wilberforce finished the 2013-2014 season with a 9-20 record playing as an independent and have just two seniors on this year's roster.
Scouting Cincinnati Christian: The Bearcats open the season on Friday evening hosting Marygrove before entertaining Lourdes on Monday night. Cincinnati Christian finished 12-18 overall and 7-10 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Eagles have just three seniors and no juniors on this year's roster.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn, and just behind Concordia (Mich.). Davenport was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite for 2014-2015 after winning the conference title eight straight seasons.
Lourdes in Openers: This will mark the fourth straight season the Gray Wolves will open the year at home. Lourdes is 1-2 all-time in season openers, posting a 62-56 win over Indiana-South Bend in 2012-2013. In the Gray Wolves inaugural opener in 2011-2012, Lourdes fell 93-59 to eighth-ranked Concordia (Mich.) and dropped a 70-50 decision to #4 Saint Francis (Ind.) last year.  Â
Looking to Replace Scoring: Lourdes looks to replace more than 60% of its scoring from 2013-2014, including three of its top four scorers. Two-time Honorable Mention All-WHAC selection
Tarynn Hampton graduated after leading the Gray Wolves by scoring 12.8 points per game last year.Â
Lauren Tilden is the team's top returning scorer, averaging 10.8 points per night, second best on the squad one year ago.
Crashing the Glass: Lourdes ranked 13th among all NAIA Division II teams in the country last season grabbing 15.4 offensive rebounds per game. The
Gray Wolves were also 41st in the country outrebounding the opposition by 2.8 caroms per night.
From Downtown: Lauren Tilden ranked 21st in NAIA Division II last season making 2.7 three-pointers per contest. Her 77 total triples ranked 27th nationally.
Orsini is Top Returning Rebounder: Senior
Emily Orsini is the team's top returning rebounder after averaging 3.4 boards per contest last year. The team's top three rebounders all graduated, led by
Tarynn Hampton and her 9.8 rebounds per contest.
Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season. Serving in the leadership role for 2014-2015 are
Lauren Tilden and
Emily Orsini. Tilden is a two-time team captain, having also served in that role in 2012-2013, while Orsini is in her first season as a team captain.
This and That: Lourdes is 8-28 all-time playing at home in Tam-o-Shanter ... the Gray Wolves are 2-0 all-time in overtime contests ... Lourdes returns 11 players that have varsity experience.
