Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes enters the month of December having won six of its last seven games overall and in a five-way tie for second place in the WHAC. The Gray Wolves host Aquinas on Wednesday evening before traveling to Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon to reach the quarter mark in conference play.
On the Air: Wednesday's game against Aquinas will be broadcast on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem. The game will be shown on BCSN at 1 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. on Friday. In addition, BCSN2 will show the game on Thursday at 3:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. as well as on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Â
Head Coach Andre Smith: In his fifth season both on the Lourdes bench and overall as a men's collegiate head coach,
Andre Smith has a 73-61 (.545) record. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history. Smith was the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2012-2013.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 5-1 all-time against Aquinas in a series that dates back to 2011 after the Gray Wolves swept last year's meetings. Lourdes was a 57-55 victor in Grand Rapids and a 59-57 winner at Owens Community College. The Gray Wolves have won five straight meetings, with all five being decided by five points or less. Lourdes is 5-3 all-time against Indiana Tech dating back to 2010. Last year the two schools split their meetings with the Warriors winning 65-55 in Fort Wayne and Lourdes posting a 64-56 triumph at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes is 3-1 against Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes held Marygrove to just 29.6% shooting for the night on the way to a 76-54 road victory over the Mustangs on Tuesday night.Â
Zach Steinmetz tallied a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds while
E.J. Blackwell added 17 points.Â
Stephen Couvillion chipped in 10 points off of the bench in the victory. Lourdes controlled the paint, outscoring the Mustangs 52-14.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have dropped two of their last three games, all non-conference contests, following a 109-59 loss at NCAA Division I foe Detroit on Monday night. Anthony Williams leads Aquinas in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game while Jake Bullock has added 11.3 points per night. Luke Sorenson ranks 22nd in NAIA Division II averaging 1.8 blocks per game. The Saints are shooting just 40.3% from the floor on the year and are scoring 66.7 points per game while surrendering 70.0 points per night. Ten different players have started at least three games this season for Aquinas.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors snapped a three-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon with a 114-27 victory over Akron Wayne. Indiana Tech will travel to Marygrove on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes on Saturday. Chester McFadden is the lone Warrior averaging in double figures this season, tallying 14.6 points per game. Franklin Lindsey adds 9.0 points and a team-leading 6.8 rebounds per contest. Â
Among the Nation's Top Defenses: Lourdes has given up just 52.6 points per game this season, a mark that ranks second in NAIA Division II. The Gray Wolves finished in the top-five nationally in scoring defense each of the last three seasons as well. Lourdes has also limited the opposition to just 36.2% shooting from the floor this season, the third best mark in the country. The Gray Wolves have surrendered more than 54 points in a game just twice this year.
Lots of Steals: Jake DuPree has already tallied 26 steals for the Gray Wolves this season. His 3.25 swipes per contest rank third nationally in NAIA Division II, while as a team Lourdes averages 9.9 thefts per contest, 15th best in the country.
Steinmetz Doubles Up the Stats: Junior forward
Zach Steinmetz has posted five double-doubles already this year. For the season he is averaging 19.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, just shy of double-double status. For his career Steinmetz has tallied 21 double-doubles in 39 games for the Gray Wolves.
Rebounds Equal Victories: Lourdes is a perfect 6-0 this season when outrebounding the opposition, but 0-2 when losing the battle of the boards. For the season the Gray Wolves have tallied a +9.6 rebounding margin over their opponents. Lourdes is averaging 15.1 offensive boards per game as well, eighth best in the country. Individually,
Zach Steinmetz ranks fourth nationally grabbing 4.50 offensive caroms per contest.
Blackwell Catching Fire: E.J. Blackwell has been a significant contributor to the Lourdes offense over the last five games, averaging 14.2 points per game over the span. He has tallied double figures in four of the five games, including a 19-point effort at Lawrence Tech.
Lourdes Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in fourth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Madonna, and just behind Northwestern Ohio. Davenport was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite for 2014-2015 after finishing runner-up last year while Cornerstone, last year's champion, was tabbed second.

Zach Steinmetz. DuPree is a two-time team captain while Steinmetz is serving as a captain for the first time.
