Lourdes Downed at Cornerstone in Final Road Game

Taking to the road for the final time during the 2013-2014 regular season, Lourdes suffered a 93-60 setback at fourth-ranked Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon at Mol Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.
 
Ron Dukes (Saint Louis, Mo./North County Christian H.S.) and Eric Worthey (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian H.S.) each scored 14 points for the Gray Wolves while Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Cornerstone shot 50.8% from the floor in the victory, scoring 53 points over the final 20 minutes on their way to clinching the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season title.
 
Lourdes never led in the game, falling behind 16-7 10 minutes into the contest.  The Golden Eagles led by as many as 18 points in the first half before heading into the locker room with a 40-27 advantage.
 
The Gray Wolves cut the deficit to seven, 43-36, just over two minutes into the second half, but Cornerstone answered with a 27-8 run over the next eight minutes and led by at least 20 points the rest of the way.
 
Lourdes shot just 36.8% from the floor on the afternoon and 53.8% from the free throw line.
 
Ben Lanning led Cornerstone (25-3, 19-1 WHAC) with 26 points while Travis Wells added 13 more. 
 
Lourdes (14-14, 9-11) will return to action on Wednesday evening, hosting Siena Heights at Tam-o-Shanter.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
