Women's Hoops Closes 2013-2014 Season at Home This Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes closes out the 2013-2014 season this week with a pair of "home" contests.  The Gray Wolves will entertain nationally-ranked Siena Heights on Wednesday evening at Tam-o-Shanter before wrapping up the year on Saturday afternoon against Aquinas in a game that will be played at the SHAC on the campus of Owens Community College.

On the Air: Wednesday's game against Siena Heights will be broadcast live on BCSN2 on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will also be replayed on BCSN2 at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday as well as at 3 a.m. on Saturday.  In addition, BCSN will show the game on Thursday at 1 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., as well as Friday at 11 a.m.

Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her first season both on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has a 6-21 (.222) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 286-268 (.516) record in her 21st season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Siena Heights holds a 5-0 advantage all-time in the series against Lourdes dating back to Dec. 3, 2011 after winning this year's first meeting in Adrian, Mich.  The Saints are 2-0 against the Gray Wolves at Tam-o-Shanter.  Aquinas holds a 5-0 edge in the series with Lourdes dating back to Nov. 30, 2011 after winning this season's first contest in Grand Rapids, Mich.  The Saints and Gray Wolves are playing for the first time at Owens CC after meeting last year at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green for Lourdes home game.

Earlier This Season: A 28-0 first half run on Feb. 6 lifted then-#19 Siena Heights to a 64-31 win over the Gray Wolves.  Tiffani Blackman led Lourdes with eight points while Grace Howrigon scored a game-high 12 points for the Saints.  Lourdes shot just 21.4% from the floor over the final 20 minutes on Dec. 4 in Grand Rapids, Mich. as the Gray Wolves suffered a 60-43 setback to Aquinas.  Tiffany Scott led Lourdes with 17 points while Tarynn Hampton added 12 more.  Taelor Sanders paced the Saints with 17 points while Allison Heberlein added 12 points.

Wrapping Up Last Week: A 29.6% shooting night from the floor proved to be too much to overcome for Lourdes on Wednesday night as the Gray wolves fell 57-48 to Northwestern Ohio.  Tarynn Hampton paced the Gray wolves with 13 points while Emily Orsini added 11 more.  On Saturday, #24 Cornerstone made a free throw with 13 seconds left that was the difference as the Golden Eagles topped Lourdes 61-60.  Hampton led the Gray Wolves with 16 points while Tiffany Scott chipped in 12 more.

Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have won seven straight games following a 77-69 victory at Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday afternoon, but play their final two games on the road.  Sierra Calhoun leads Siena Heights averaging 14.4 points per game and is shooting 52.2% from the floor.  Grace Howrigon adds 12.2 points per outing and is fourth nationally averaging 6.1 assists per night.  The Saints rank second nationally allowing opponents to shoot just 33.4% from the floor and fourth nationally holding teams to 25.8% shooting from three-point range.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having won two straight and four of their last five following a 90-74 win at Madonna on Saturday.  Aquinas heads to Cornerstone on Wednesday before traveling to face Lourdes.  Taelor Sanders leads the Saints averaging 15.0 points per game while Allison Heberlein adds 14.4 points and a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game.

Thanks Seniors: Lourdes will honor the four members of its senior class on Saturday afternoon prior to the Aquinas game at Owens Community College.  Tiffani Blackman, Tarynn Hampton, Tiffany Scott, and Courtney Slepko will be playing their final games in a Gray Wolf uniform this week.

Home Away From Home: Due to a conflict at Tam-o-Shanter, Lourdes will play its final home game on Saturday at Owens Community College.  The Gray Wolves are 0-1 all-time in home games at Owens, having fallen 67-56 in last year's season finale against Cornerstone.

TV Time Again: Lourdes will be playing its sixth home game of the year on BCSN on Wednesday evening.  

More Ranked Foes: Siena Heights will mark the seventh ranked opponent that the Gray Wolves will  have faced this season, with Lourdes still looking for its first win of the year against a top-25 foe.  All-time Lourdes is 1-16 against NAIA Division II top-25 teams with the lone victory coming at #18 Indiana-Northwest on Nov. 5, 2011.

Crashing the Glass: Tarynn Hampton ranks fourth in all of NAIA Division II averaging 4.6 offensive rebounds per game.  Hampton ranks 17th overall in total rebounding, averaging 9.8 rebounds per night.  As a team Lourdes ranks 12th in the nation pulling down 15.5 offensive rebounds per contest, and its +2.8 rebounding margin is 42nd best in the country.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2013-2014 are Tiffani Blackman and Tiffany Scott.  Blackman is a two-time team captain while Scott is in her first season as a team captain.

This and That: Lauren Tilden ranks 32nd in the nation making 2.5 three-pointers per game ... Tarynn Hampton needs seven free throw attempts to reach 200 on the year ... Lourdes shot 82.6% from the free throw line Saturday at Cornerstone and 80% from the stripe Wednesday against Northwestern Ohio, its two best shooting nights at the line this season.
