Lourdes Downs Siena Heights to Clinch WHAC Tourney Berth

Lourdes snapped a four-game losing skid on Wednesday evening with a 57-52 victory over Siena Heights at Tam-o-Shanter, and in the process secured a berth in next week's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament.
 
Eric Worthey (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian H.S.) scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, making 14-of-15 from the free throw line, while Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) added his 15th double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Both schools struggled offensively in the first half, as Siena Heights took an 18-15 lead into the locker room.  The Saints shot 29.6% from the floor while the Gray Wolves connected at a 26.1% rate and the teams combined to shot 0-for-10 from three-point range in the stanza.
 
Neither team had a lead larger than four for the first 30 minutes of the contest before a 6-0 run by the Saints gave the visitors a 36-29 lead with 8:32 to play.  Lourdes battled back, going on a 15-3 spurt over five minutes to seize the lead back and take a 49-42 advantage into the final minute.  The Gray Wolves made eight free throws in the final 52 seconds to secure the win.
 
With just two players finishing the game in double figures, Lourdes shot 56.3% from the floor over the final 20 minutes while tallying 42 points.  The Gray Wolves finished with a 36-29 advantage on the glass and forced 10 Saints turnovers in the second half.
 
Christian Covile led four Siena Heights (11-18, 7-14 WHAC) scorers who finished in double figures with 14 points.  Jamison Webster and Stone Beckwith both came off of the bench to score 13 and 10 points respectively while Eric Cogan finished the night with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
 
Lourdes (15-14, 10-11) will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon looking to secure a winning season as the Gray Wolves host Aquinas.  Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. at Owens Community College in Perrysburg.
