Aquinas Spoils Lourdes Senior Day as Gray Wolves Season Ends Saturday

Box Score
Lourdes University saw its 2013-2014 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves fell to Aquinas 74-61 at the Student Health and Activities Center on the campus of Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio.

The Gray Wolves celebrated Senior Day before the contest, honoring Tiffani Blackman (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.), Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.), Tiffany Scott (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Sylvania Southview H.S.), and Courtney Slepko (Cleveland, Ohio/Normandy H.S.).

Hampton closed her career with a double-double, scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.  Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) added 17 points, making four three-pointers, while Emily Orsini (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.) chipped in 10 points.

Lourdes trailed just 12-11 seven minutes into the contest before the Saints scored 12 straight points as part of an 18-3 run over six minutes to build a 16-point lead.  The Gray Wolves clawed back before halftime, ending the stanza on a 12-2 run over their own, cutting the deficit to four, 32-28, on a Hampton lay-in in the final minute.

The Gray Wolves were still within four, 38-34, at the 17:27 mark, but a 14-4 run by the guests pushed the lead back to 16, 57-41, at the 9:59 mark.  Lourdes was able to mount one more 7-0 run late, closing to within nine following a Tilden three with 5:33 left, but that would be as close as the Terra Cotta and Black would get the rest of the way.

Allison Heberlein led four Saints in double figures with 19 points while Nicci Thomas came off of the bench to add 17 more for Aquinas (21-8, 14-8 WHAC).  Chelsea Matley added 11 points and Taelor Sanders chipped in 10 as Aquinas shot 52.2% from the floor on the afternoon, including 64.7% in the second half.

Lourdes shot 33.3% from the floor on the day but outrebounded the Saints 41-33, including 18-4 on the offensive end.

Lourdes season comes to a close with a 6-23 record overall and a 4-18 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, placing 10th overall.
