Lourdes Women Host Concordia and Siena Heights to Conclude Homestand

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes concludes its three-game homestand with a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests.  The Gray Wolves will entertain Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday night at Tam-o-Shanter before hosting nationally-ranked Siena Heights in a Saturday matinee.

Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her second season on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has an 11-34 (.244) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 291-281 (.509) record in her 22nd season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Concordia is 6-0 all-time against Lourdes in a series that dates back to Oct. 27, 2011 when the Gray Wolves played their inaugural game.  Last season the Cardinals posted a 67-61 win at Tam-o-Shanter before defeating Lourdes 68-59 in Ann Arbor.  Concordia holds a 3-0 record all-time in games played at Tam-o-Shanter.  Siena Heights also holds a 6-0 mark all-time against the Gray Wolves dating back to Dec. 3, 2011.  The Saints were 64-31 victors in Adrian, Mich. last year before notching a 75-63 triumph at Tam-o-Shanter.  Siena Heights is 3-0 all-time at Tam-o-Shanter.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lauren Tilden made six three-pointers on her way to a game-high 25 points, but Lourdes was unable to overcome 27 turnovers and 56.3% shooting from Northwestern Ohio as the Gray Wolves fell to the Racers 70-59 on Saturday afternoon. Tara Yurek added 12 points for Lourdes in the loss.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals snapped a six-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 75-65 road victory at Michigan-Dearborn.  Brianna Rowe leads Concordia in scoring averaging 10.6 points per game.  Kari Borowiak adds 10.2 points per contest while Michelle Murnen is tallying 9.9 points per night.  As a team, the Cardinals ranks second in NAIA Division II grabbing 20.9 offensive rebounds per game while ranking sixth in the country making 8.7 three-pointers per contest.

Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the week having won three straight games following a 58-55 victory at home against Aquinas on Saturday.  Siena Heights hosts Madonna on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes.  Sierra Calhoun is the only Saint averaging in double figures, scoring 17.4 points per night.  Alexxis Knannlein adds 9.7 points per game as well as 7.3 rebounds per contest coming off of the bench.  Her 1.7 blocks per night rank 20th in the country.  Mackenzie Tomasik adds 9.3 points and 7.2 boards per game.  Siena Heights is allowing just 56.2 points per game, the 11th best mark in the country.

Facing Ranked Opponents: Lourdes will be facing its second ranked opponent of the season on Saturday when the Gray Wolves host Siena Heights.  Earlier this season Lourdes fell 66-40 at 24th-ranked Cornerstone.  Lourdes is 1-18 all-time against top-25 opponents, and are winless in eight previous home games against ranked foes.  This will mark the fourth time the Gray Wolves have met Siena Heights when the Saints were ranked in the top-25.

Dialing Long Distance: Lauren Tilden ranks third in all of NAIA Division II averaging 3.50 three-point field goals per game this season.  Her 56 triples per contest are tied with Jordan Wilcox from Warner Pacific for second most among all players, trailing just Amanda Weber's 84 threes from Johnson & Wales.  Tilden's six three-pointers against Northwestern Ohio on Saturday were here second highest total of the season.  The fifth-year senior has made at least two treys in every game but one (Washington & Jefferson) this season.

Yurek Tallies Career High: Fifth-year senior Tara Yurek tallied her first double figure scoring game of her Lourdes career on Saturday with 12 points against Northwestern Ohio.  In fact, the 12 points doubled her previous best output of six points earlier this season against both Kuyper and Lawrence Tech.

Distributing the Basketball: Molea Thompson handed out five assists in Saturday's loss to Northwestern Ohio, marking the third time this season she has handed out five or more helpers in a game.  The freshman point guard is averaging just under three assists per contest, and has at least one in every game this season.

Defending the Arc: Lourdes is holding the opposition to just 28.0% shooting from three-point range this season.  The Gray Wolves rank 26th in all of NAIA Division II in three-point field goal percentage defense.  The opposition is averaging just over 20 three-point field goal attempts per game this year.

Free Throw Woes: Lourdes has struggled from the free throw line all season, shooting just 59.1% from the charity stripe.  Only three times have the Gray Wolves shot better than 67% from the line in a game.  Lauren Tilden is the lone Gray Wolf shooting better than 70% from the line individually, connecting at a 72.7% clip.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2014-2015 are Lauren Tilden and Emily Orsini.  Tilden is a two-time team captain, having also served in that role in 2012-2013, while Orsini is in her first season as a team captain.

This and That: Niki Meyer is averaging 21 minutes per game in her three games since returning from injury that sidelined her for 12 contests ... Lauren Tilden ranks 36th in the country in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game ... Tilden, Jesse Fidler, and Emily Orsini have started all 16 games this season ... Jessica Durr is pulling down 7.6 rebounds per game, a team high ... 17 different players have seen the floor for the Gray Wolves this season.
