Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes looks to snap its four-game losing streak this week as the Gray Wolves close out its three-game homestand. Lourdes will face first place Concordia (Mich.) at Tam-o-Shanter on Wednesday night before entertaining Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Andre Smith: In his fifth season both on the Lourdes bench and overall as a men's collegiate head coach,
Andre Smith has a 77-66 (.538) record. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history. Smith was the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2012-2013.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 6-3 advantage all-time against Concordia (Mich.) in a series dating back to Nov. 2, 2010 and the Gray Wolves have won four straight meetings against the Cardinals. Last year, Lourdes posted a pair of victories by identical 66-56 scores, the first at Tam-o-Shanter and the second in Ann Arbor, Mich. Lourdes is 3-0 against Concordia all-time at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes holds a 6-2 series edge against Siena Heights dating back to Nov. 12, 2011. Last season, the Saints won the first meeting 54-43 in Adrian, Mich. before the Gray Wolves rebounded with a 57-52 triumph at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes is 3-0 all-time against Siena Heights at Tam-o-Shanter.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes fell behind by as many as 21 points late in the first half and was unable to battle back on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves fell at home to Northwestern Ohio 63-50.Â
Zach Steinmetz led the Gray Wolves with 15 points while
E.J. Blackwell added 13 points. Lourdes committed 19 turnovers in the loss.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals visit Tam-o-Shanter in first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference after a 59-58 victory over Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday afternoon. Concordia has won nine of its last 10 games overall. Andrew Patrick leads the Cardinals in scoring averaging 16.6 points per game while Josh Fugate adds 14.9 points per night. Joe Remstad has been the team's leader rebounding the basketball, grabbing 7.4 caroms per contest.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints snapped a five-game losing streak on Monday evening with a 70-47 non-conference victory over crosstown rival Adrian. Siena Heights hosts Madonna on Wednesday night before visiting Lourdes on Saturday. Christian Covile leads Siena Heights scoring 13.8 points per game while adding 7.8 rebounds per contest. George Goodman adds 12.1 points per game while Jerrell Martin chips in 10.0 points per night. Martin also ranks seventh in NAIA Division II tallying 2.3 blocks per game. Â
Steinmetz Named to Saint Xavier Midwest Classic All-Tourney Team: Zach Steinmetz was named to the Saint Xavier Midwest Classic All-Tournament Team over the holidays for his efforts in the three games. The junior averaged 19 points and seven rebounds per game for the Gray Wolves while shooting 53.7% from the floor. Steinmetz tallied a double-double against Cincinnati Christian. Â
Among the Nation's Top Defenses: Lourdes has given up just 59.1 points per game this season, a mark that ranks third in NAIA Division II. The Gray Wolves finished in the top-five nationally in scoring defense each of the last three seasons as well. Lourdes has also limited the opposition to just 40.0% shooting from the floor this season, the 16th best mark in the country. Â
Dialing Long Distance: As a team Lourdes is shooting 40.7% from three-point range this season, a mark that ranks 12th nationally. The Gray Wolves have never shot better than 31.7% in a season prior to this year. Lourdes has taken just 162 attempt beyond the arc this season though, less than half of the 334 that is opponents have attempted.Â
Aaron Ashley leads the Gray Wolves shooting 46.3% from long range, making 31 of his 67 tries.
Looking to Snap the Streak: Lourdes enters the week having lost four straight games, matching the program's longest losing skid in school history. The Gray Wolves also dropped four in a row last season, from Feb. 6-15 as well as from Dec. 4-17 of 2010 in the program's first season.
Making Free Throws: Lourdes is shooting 69.9% from the free throw line this season, the second best mark in program history. The 2011-2012 team finished the year at 70.1% from the line, the only team to finish over 70%.Â
E.J. Blackwell leads five players that are shooting better than 70% from the charity stripe. Blackwell is connecting at a 79% clip. Over the last two games Lourdes is 30-for-35 (85.7%) from the line.
Collecting Steals: Jake DuPree ranks fourth nationally averaging 3.25 steals per game this season. He has at least one theft in every game this season, and a string of 20 consecutive games dating back to Feb. 15, 2014 against Cornerstone. DuPree's 52 steals this season are already a career high. The fifth-year senior has 157 thefts in his career at Lourdes.
Captains Named: Lourdes has two captains on the roster this season. Serving in the leadership role for 2014-2015 are

Zach Steinmetz. DuPree is a two-time team captain while Steinmetz is serving as a captain for the first time.
