Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After dropping its first game of the season to the top-ranked team in NAIA Division II, Lourdes returns to the hardwood this week for a pair of road contests.  The Gray Wolves travel to Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday night before facing Aquinas in a Saturday afternoon affair.

Head Coach Andre Smith: In his sixth season both on the Lourdes bench and overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Andre Smith has a 87-74 (.540) record.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.  Smith was the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2012-2013.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 7-4 all-time advantage against Concordia (Mich.) in a series that dates back to Nov. 2, 2010.  Last season the two schools split a pair of meetings, with each winning on the other's home floor.  The Cardinals were 56-48 victors at Lourdes while the Gray Wolves notched a 69-48 victory in Ann Arbor.  Lourdes holds a 4-2 series edge in Ann Arbor.  Lourdes is 6-2 all-time against Aquinas dating back to Nov. 30, 2011.  Lourdes posted a 68-65 win over the Saints at home last year while Aquinas won in Grand Rapids 57-50.  The two teams are 2-2 against each other in Grand Rapids, Mich. all-time.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes fell behind early and was unable to rally against the nation's top team, falling 63-54 to Cornerstone on Saturday evening in the home and WHAC opener for the Gray Wolves.  E.J. Blackwell led Lourdes with 16 points while Anthony Swanigan and Julian Johnson each tallied 14 points each.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have won three of their first four games this season following a 65-52 victory on the road at Siena Heights on Saturday.  Jerald Booker leads Concordia averaging 15.3 points per game coming off of the bench.  Alec Turner is also scoring in double figures for the Cardinals, averaging 12.8 points per night.  Joe Remstad is the team's top rebounder, grabbing 6.5 boards per night.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won back-to-back games following an 83-65 victory at Northwestern Ohio on Saturday to open WHAC play.  Aquinas will host Lawrence Tech on Wednesday before facing Lourdes.  Zac VanBeek leads three Saints averaging double figures, scoring 15.0 points per game.  Jake Bullock adds 14.6 points per night while Bryan Mitzner is tallying 11.8 points per contest.  Rashaud Orange has come off of the bench to pull down a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game.

Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes committed just four turnovers on Saturday in the loss to #1 Cornerstone.  The Gray Wolves entered the contest averaging 15.7 per contest through the first three games of the year.  Last season, the Gray Wolves' season low for miscues in a contest was five against Indiana Tech.  Lourdes also turned the ball over just six times at Concordia (Mich.) one year ago.

Looking for Best Start Ever: Lourdes is off to a 3-1, matching its best four-game start in program history.  While the Gray Wolves have never won more than two straight to start a season prior to this year,  Lourdes has had solid starts to seasons going 5-1, 6-1, and 4-1 to open each the last three campaigns.

Making Free Throws: E.J. Blackwell connected on 7-of-8 from the free throw line against Cornerstone.  The senior is shooting 80.6% from the charity stripe this season, helping the Gray Wolves connect at a 74.7% clip for the season.

Swanigan Solid from the Floor: Anthony Swanigan is shooting 60.5% from the floor this season.  He has connected on at least 50% of his shots in all four games this season.  Swanigan ranks second on the squad in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game.

Lots of Road Games: Lourdes opened the season with three straight road games before playing the home opener last Saturday against Cornerstone.  With Lourdes again going on the road, the Gray Wolves will begin the year with five of their first six games away from home.

Surpassing 1,000: Zach Steinmetz became the first 1,000-point scorer in program history on Nov. 7, surpassing the plateau in the second half against Akron Wayne.  In just two-plus years, Steinmetz has tallied 1,005 points for the Gray Wolves.  He tallied over half of his total in 2014-2015, scoring 540 points last year alone.

Lourdes Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in fourth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Aquinas, and just behind Northwestern Ohio.  Cornerstone was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite after winning the 2014-2015 NAIA Division II national championship.  Davenport, a national semifinalist a year ago, was tabbed second.

This and That: Daniel Steen made his first collegiate start against Cornerstone ... Lourdes made 6-of-13 (46.2%) three-pointers against the Golden Eagles but connected on just 12-of-37 (32.4%) of shots inside of the arc ... the Gray Wolves forced just five Cornerstone turnovers on Saturday ... the Gray Wolves were outrebounded for the first time this season against the Golden Eagles.
