Lourdes Women Look for First WHAC Win this Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes continues Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves welcome Michigan-Dearborn to Tam-o-Shanter as both teams look for their first league victory.  The Gray Wolves step out of conference action on Friday, heading to West Virginia to face NCAA Division II Ohio Valley.    

On the Air: Tuesday's game against Michigan-Dearborn will be broadcast live on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will also be replayed on BCSN on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the game on Wednesday at 1 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and midnight as well as Friday at 10 p.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m.

Head Coach Karen McConnell: In her second season on the Lourdes bench Karen McConnell has a 16-50 (.242) record.  Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, McConnell has a 296-297 (.499) record in her 22nd season.  She is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 3-5 all-time against Michigan-Dearborn in a series dating back to Jan. 14, 2012 after the Wolverines swept last year's meetings.  Michigan-Dearborn posted a 64-54 victory at Tam-o-Shanter on Nov. 15, 2014 before winning 71-63 in Dearborn, Mich. on Feb. 7, 2015.  The series is even 2-2 all-time at Tam-o-Shanter.  Lourdes and Ohio Valley will be meeting on the hardwood for the first time.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes struggled from the floor, shooting just 33.9% on Wednesday evening, and committed 20 turnovers in a 69-56 loss at Concordia (Mich.).  Jesse Fidler led the Gray Wolves with 13 points while Andrea Hodge added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.  On Saturday at Aquinas, Lourdes held a 21-point first half lead, only to see the Saints rally and take the lead in the fourth quarter while defeating the Gray Wolves 64-58.  Niki Meyer had a team-high 17 points while Hodge added 14 points.  

Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines are still searching for their first victory of the season after falling 80-43 on Saturday afternoon at Indiana Tech.  Megan Swick leads Michigan-Dearborn averaging 8.6 points per game while Marisa Sauve is pulling down a team-leading 5.4 rebounds per contest.  The Wolverines are shooting just 27.9% from the floor and committing 25.0 turnovers per night.

Scouting Ohio Valley: The Fighting Scots are winless in two games early in their 2015-2016 season after falling 74-45 to Lake Erie on Nov. 15.  Ohio Valley plays at Ohio Christian on Monday before hosting Lourdes on Friday evening.  Faith Miller leads the Fighting Scots averaging 10.5 points per game while Hanna Mitchell has added 9.0 points per night.  Ariel Johnson has pulled down a team-leading 9.0 rebounds per night.  Ohio Valley is shooting 27.0% from the floor, including just 6-of-35 (17.1%) from three-point range.

Fidler Leads the Offense: Jesse Fidler is the only Gray Wolf averaging in double figures this season.  The sophomore is tallying 13.0 points per game and has posted double figures in six of her seven games.  Fidler scored a season-high 19 points against Cornerstone on Nov. 14, and has five straight double figure scoring games.  Offensively Fidler is shooting 56.3% from the floor, ranking 22nd in NAIA Division II.

Hodge Fills the Bucket: Andrea Hodge entered last week having scored 34 points in the first five games of the season.  The freshman combined for 25 points in two games last week, including a season-high 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting against Aquinas.

Playing Solid Defense: Lourdes has limited its opponents to just 53.1 points per game this season, a mark that ranks ninth in NAIA Division II.  Gray Wolf opponents have yet to score more than 56 points in a game.  The Gray Wolves are limiting the opposition to just 31.9% shooting from the floor, the eighth best field goal percentage defense in the country.  Lourdes opponents are connecting at just a 27.3% clip from three-point range, a mark that also ranks in the top-35 nationally.

Quite a Thief: Jesse Fidler ranks ninth in NAIA individually with 23 steals on the season.  She has three or more steals in four of her seven games this season, including a career-high seven thefts against Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn, and just behind Concordia (Mich.).  Davenport was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite for 2015-2016 after winning the conference title nine straight seasons.

Captains Named: Lourdes has two sophomore captains on the roster this season.  Serving in the leadership role for 2015-2016 are Jesse Fidler and Niki Meyer.  The duo both had successful freshmen campaigns with the Gray Wolves.

This and That: Jesse Fidler has registered 19 of her 33 rebounds on the offensive end of the floor ... Niki Meyer is shooting 85.7% from the free throw line this season, but is the only Gray Wolf with more than two attempts shooting about 65% on the year ... Meyer recorded a season-high five steal at Aquinas.
