Lourdes Men Face Indiana Tech and Lawrence Tech This Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After more than a week off, Lourdes looks build off of its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season this week as the Gray Wolves head to Indiana Tech on Wednesday night before hosting Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon.

On the Air: Saturday's game against Lawrence Tech will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will air on BCSN on Sunday at 4 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the game on Saturday night at 9:30 p.m.

Head Coach Andre Smith: In his sixth season both on the Lourdes bench and overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Andre Smith has a 88-76 (.537) record.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.  Smith was the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2012-2013.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 6-4 all-time advantage against Indiana Tech in a series that dates back to Oct. 30, 2010.  Last season the two schools split a pair of meetings, with each defending its own home floor.  The Warriors scored a 74-62 win in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Dec. 6, 2014 before the Gray Wolves registered a 59-545 triumph at Tam-o-Shanter on Jan. 24, 2015.  Lourdes holds a 3-2 all-time advantage against in Fort Wayne.  Lourdes holds a 6-1 all-time edge against Lawrence Tech dating back to Nov. 3, 2012.  The Gray Wolves swept last year's meetings, winning 52-48 on Nov. 22, 2014 in Southfield, Mich. before downing the Blue Devils 54-48 at Tam-o-Shanter on Jan. 31, 2015.  Lourdes holds a 3-0 series edge in games played at Tam-o-Shanter.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes rallied from a two-point halftime deficit to defeat Michigan-Dearborn 69-63 last Tuesday at Tam-o-Shanter.  Zach Steinmetz tallied his second double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds.  E.J. Blackwell added 20 points while Anthony Swanigan chipped in 13 points for the Gray Wolves.  Lourdes shot 43% from the floor and committed just nine turnovers in the contest.

Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have dropped two straight games following a 67-64 setback to Rochester (Mich.) on Sunday afternoon.  Dominique Walls leads Indiana Tech averaging 17.3 points per game while also grabbing a team-leading 9.8 rebounds per night.  Miles Robinson adds 16.8 points per contest for the Warriors while shooting 85.3% from the free throw line.  

Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week having dropped four straight games following a 95-65 setback at Indiana-South Bend on Saturday afternoon.  Lawrence Tech hosts Marygrove on Wednesday before heading to Lourdes.  Robbie Geoghegan leads Lawrence Tech averaging 9.8 points per game while Jake Mullen adds 9.1 points per night.  Brad Watterworth is the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 4.9 boards per night.

Coming From Behind: Falling behind at intermission has not meant an automatic loss for the Gray Wolves this season.  Lourdes is 3-2 when trailing after the opening 20 minutes of the game, and has entered the locker room with the halftime advantage just twice thus far (posting a 1-1 record).

Shooting Well Equals Success: Lourdes has yet to lose a game when the Gray Wolves shoot a better percentage than their opponents from the floor and the free throw line.  On the season the Gray Wolves are connecting at a 45.8% clip from the floor, including 41.3% from three-point range, and 74.4% from the charity stripe.

Blackwell Tallies Double Figures: E.J. Blackwell has tallied double figures in the scoring column in all seven games he has played thus far this season.  In fact, the senior has yet to score fewer than 16 points in any contest, and enters the week averaging a team-leading 18.6 points per night after scoring 20 points against Michigan-Dearborn.  Blackwell scored a season-high 23 points against Akron Wayne on Nov. 7.  He is shooting 47.9% from the floor and is a 77.8% free throw shooter.

Quite the Ratio: Julian Johnson has handed out 24 assists already this season while committing just seven turnovers for the Gray Wolves.  His 3.43 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks in the top-50 in all of NAIA Division II.

Limiting Scoring Yet Again: The Gray Wolves enter the week ranked fifth in NAIA Division II allowing just 62.6 points per game this season after finishing in the top-five nationally in scoring defense each of the last four seasons.  Lourdes finished third in NAIA Division II last season surrendering just 58.7 points per game.  In 2013-2014 Lourdes was fifth (63.10), one year after leading the country in 2012-2013 allowing just 51.3 points per night.  

Lourdes Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in fourth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Aquinas, and just behind Northwestern Ohio.  Cornerstone was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite after winning the 2014-2015 NAIA Division II national championship.  Davenport, a national semifinalist a year ago, was tabbed second.

This and That: Zach Steinmetz registered his second double-double of the season with his 21 points and 11 boards against Michigan-Dearborn ... the Gray Wolves are 10th in the country shooting 41.3% from three-point range ... Lourdes is outscoring opponents 267-215 in the second half after being outscored 212-190 in the opening 20 minutes.
