Lourdes rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to force overtime on Wednesday, but Cornerstone prevailed in the extra session 81-75 at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

Trailing by 11, 37-26, after the Golden Eagles scored the first basket of the second half, Lourdes began its rally.  The Gray Wolves finished the period on a 13-5 run to pull within one after a basket by Samantha Enck (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.).

A three-point play by Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S) put Lourdes in front 48-47.  They Gray Wolves extended the lead to six, 62-56, with under three minutes to play before Cornerstone scored six straight points to tie the game with 1:16 to play.  Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) scored in the closing seconds, but a foul on the ensuing possession allowed the Golden Eagles to force overtime.

Cornerstone (6-5, 4-2 WHAC) scored on the opening possession of overtime and never trailed the rest of the way.  Elayna Ackerman (Fremont, Ohio/Ross H.S.) pulled the Gray Wolves within one, 76-75, with under 30 seconds to play but the Golden Eagles went 5-for-6 from the line down the stretch to secure the win.

"Our team is beginning to compete at a much higher level," head coach Summer Quesenberry said after.  'We need to be more consistent in our defensive closeouts and rotations as the breakdown is causing us to foul much too often. Cornerstone was able to score 22 points tonight from the free-throw line and that deficit affected our ability to be victorious."

Ackerman led Lourdes with 18 points while Thompson added 15 more.  Fidler had 13 points while Taylor Geib (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S. pulled down 14 rebounds.  Lourdes held a 50-42 rebounding edge, including 26-10 on the offensive glass.

Jesse Sheridan led Cornerstone with 27 points while Lizzy Otten added 17 more.

"Again, I am pleased with our player's level of competing and recognize that we must become stronger defensively if we want to elevate our level of play from competing to winning," Quesenberry added.

Lourdes (4-8, 3-3) remains home on Saturday to host 21st-ranked Indiana Tech. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
