Homestand Ends and Road Trip Begins This Week for Lourdes Men

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: A three-game homestand comes to a close and a three-game road trip begins this week for Lourdes University.  The Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday evening at the Ebeid Rec Center before taking to the road on Saturday afternoon to visit second place Indiana Tech.

Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his first season on the Lourdes bench Josh Gibson has a 3-18 (.143) record.  Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 63-74 (.460) record in his fifth season.  He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes leads the all-time series against Concordia (Mich.) 8-6 dating back to Nov. 2, 2010.  The teams have alternated wins and losses over the last six meetings, with the Cardinals posting an 84-55 victory in the first meeting this season on Nov. 22 in Ann Arbor, Mich.  Lourdes went 4-1 against Concordia at Tam-o-Shanter.  Indiana Tech took a 7-6 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to Oct. 30, 2010 with a 67-65 overtime victory at the Ebeid Rec Center back on Dec. 10.  The Warriors have now won three straight meetings between the two schools.  The series is tied 3-3 in games played in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Earlier This Season: Concordia (Mich.) shot 56.9% from the floor on Nov. 22 on the way to an 84-55 victory over the Gray Wolves in Ann Arbor, Mich.  Hamish Abbott led Lourdes with 12 points while Najeeb Johnson and Desmond Frazier each added 11 points for the Gray Wolves.  Jerald Booker tallied a game-high 21 points for Concordia.  On Dec. 10, Indiana Tech rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Lourdes 67-65 in overtime at the Ebeid Rec Center.  Levert Bristol registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Johnson added 15 points for Lourdes.  Miles Robinson led Indiana Tech with 19 points.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Aquinas jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead after shooting 60.9% from the floor over the first 20 minutes last Wednesday, and defeated Lourdes 62-41 at the Ebeid Rec Center.  The Gray Wolves connected at just a 28.8% clip from the field on the night.  Desmond Frazier led Lourdes with 12 points as the only Gray Wolf to tally double figures.  On Saturday, Marygrove went on a 10-0 run late in the second half to down the Gray Wolves 72-68 at the Ebeid Rec Center.  Najeeb Johnson led Lourdes with 15 points.  The Gray Wolves forced 21 Mustang turnovers, but shot just 47.6% from the free throw line in the tight game.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The snapped a four-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon, upsetting 21st-ranked Northwestern Ohio 55-54 at home.  Connor Phee leads four Cardinals averaging in double figures.  Phee is scoring 16.6 points per night and shooting 54.7% from the floor.  Jerald Booker adds 16.0 points per night.  

Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors had their five-game winning streak stopped on Saturday, as the Warriors suffered an 82-71 setback at top-ranked Cornerstone.  Miles Robinson leads six Warriors averaging in double figures.  Robinson is scoring 19.7 points per game while Scott Schwieterman adds 11.8 points per night.

Suits and Sneakers Week: Lourdes basketball coaching staff will be taking part in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week.  The coaches will be wearing sneakers with their game attire as a visible reminder of the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing cancer risk during both the Concordia (Mich.) and Indiana Tech games.  The Gray Wolves will also be accepting donations for the National Cancer Society during the home game on Wednesday.

From Down Under: Lourdes' pair of Australians, Hamish Abbott and Daniels Steen both provided significant contributions on Saturday against Marygrove.  Abbott, playing in his first contest after missing nine straight due to injury, scored 10 points for his third double figure game of the season.  Steen matched his season high against the Mustangs, tallying eight points in 15 minutes of action.

Spreading Out the Minutes: Lourdes has distributed minutes among its players this season.  Only Anthony Swanigan (32.6 mpg) and Najeeb Johnson (31.4 mpg) are averaging more than 30 minutes per contest.  The Gray Wolves have 12 players who have seen action this year average at least 10 minutes of play per contest.

Struggles from the Free Throw Line: Lourdes is shooting just 58.7% from the charity stripe this season.  Only Levert Bristol (80%) and Evan Vasquez (80%) are shooting better than 65% from the line among those players who have attempted more than 15 free throws on the year.

Among Nation's Leaders: As a team, Lourdes is allowing 75.48 points per game, a mark that ranks 46th nationally among all NAIA Division II teams.  Individually, Desmond Frazier is 43rd in the country registering 1.67 steals per game.

This and That: Najeeb Johnson matched his career-high with four steals against Marygrove ... Anthony Swanigan moved over 300 career points with his eight against Marygrove ... Johnson and Levert Bristol have started all 21 games this season ... Malik Thurman has 22 blocked shots in 21 games.
