Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes opens its eighth season of intercollegiate basketball this weekend as the Gray Wolves face NCAA Division I foe Western Michigan in an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon.  The Gray Wolves begin the regular season one night later, at home, as Lourdes welcomes Great Lakes Christian to the Ebeid Rec Center.

Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench Josh Gibson has a 7-22 (.241) record.  Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 67-78 (.462) record in his sixth season.  He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes has never faced Western Michigan on the hardwood during the regular season or during exhibition play.  The Gray Wolves and Great Lakes Christian will be meeting for the first time ever in men's basketball on Monday evening.

Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves posted a 7-22 record overall and a 6-16 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  Lourdes finished in 10th place in the league.

Scouting Western Michigan: The Broncos finished 2016-2017 with a 16-16 record overall and an 11-7 mark in the Mid-American Conference.  Western Michigan is the preseason favorite to win the MAC West this season.  The Broncos return nine of their top-10 scorers from one year ago, led by Thomas Wilder, who averaged 19.3 points per game while shooting 44.4% from three-point range.  Reggie Jones added 9.4 points per night for the Broncos.

Scouting Great Lakes Christian: The Crusaders, who hail from Lansing, Mich., posted a 1-24 record in 2016-2017 are a member of the NCCAA Mid-East Region.  Great Lakes Christian travels to Madonna on Saturday afternoon before heading to Lourdes.  The Crusaders return just four players from last year's squad.

Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Lawrence Tech  and just behind Concordia (Mich.) in the league balloting.  Cornerstone was the unanimous pick to win the WHAC in 2017-2018, and is the preseason #1 team in the nation in NAIA Division II.

Lourdes in Season Openers: Lourdes is 4-3 all-time in season openers, having defeated Akron Wayne at home, 83-48, to open the 2016-2017 campaign.  Last season marked the first time the Gray Wolves had ever opened a season at home.  Lourdes has won three of its last four season openers overall.

Lourdes in Home Openers: Lourdes is 6-1 all-time in home openers, including 1-0 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.  The Gray Wolves went 5-1 in their former home, Tam-o-Shanter prior to the 2016-2017 season.  The only home opener Lourdes has lost came to top-ranked Cornerstone in 2015.

A Youthful Squad: Lourdes has only six returnees from last year's squad, with Desmond Frazier being the team's top returning scorer after averaging 9.8 points per game.  Malik Thurman added 7.4 points per night for the Gray Wolves, and is the team's top returning rebounder at 3.8 boards per contest.  Only Hamish Abbott and Darriontae Stewart have been with the program for the past two seasons entering opening night.

Lots of New Faces: The Gray Wolves have 10 new faces to begin the 2017-2018 campaign, including eight true freshmen.  In addition, Devon Beale has transferred to Lourdes from Defiance College, and has three years of eligibility remaining.  Bryce McComb enrolled at Lourdes last January, and after using last season as a redshirt year, has four years of eligibility remaining.

This and That: Lourdes is 101-114 all-time entering the program's eighth season ... the Gray Wolves have two NAIA National Championship appearances (2012 and 2013) ... Lourdes is 1-6 all-time in overtime contests ... the Gray Wolves are 8-40 all-time against NAIA Division II top-25 opponents, dropping all nine games against ranked foes last season ... Western Michigan is the second NCAA Division I foe the Gray Wolves have played in exhibition action, falling at Central Michigan 87-66 on Dec. 31, 2015.
