Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes looks to snap a two-game losing skid this week, as the Gray Wolves return home on Tuesday evening to entertain Concordia (Mich.). Lourdes will step out of league play on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Indiana-South Bend, beginning a stretch in which they will play six of seven games away from the Ebeid Rec Center.
On the Air: Wednesday's game against Concordia (Mich.) will be broadcast live on BCSN2 as part of Buckeye Broadband. The game will also air on BCSN on Thursday morning at 2 a.m.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has an 11-25 (.306) record. Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 72-83 (.465) record in his sixth season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 9-6 all-time advantage against Concordia (Mich.) in a series that dates back to Nov. 2, 2010. The two schools have alternated wins over their last seven meetings. Last year Concordia scored an 84-55 victory in Ann Arbor, Mich. before Lourdes won the first meeting ever inside the Ebeid Rec Center, 81-60. Lourdes is 5-2 all-time in home games against the Cardinals. Lourdes and Indiana-South Bend are meeting on the hardwood for the first time ever on Saturday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Aquinas shot 69.2% from the floor in the first half on Wednesday evening on the way to building a 19-point halftime advantage, and defeated Lourdes 77-58.Â
Clif Snow led Lourdes with 14 points while
Evan Vasquez added 12 more off the bench. Saturday the Gray Wolves took to the road, suffering a 72-52 setback at Michigan-Dearborn, shooting just 32.1% from the floor.Â
Malik Thurman came off the bench to lead Lourdes with 16 points while
Jordan Fabry tallied 11 more.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have dropped back-to-back games after falling 87-65 at top-ranked Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon. Connor Phee leads three Concordia players averaging in double figures, tallying 22.0 points per night while shooting 65.4% from the floor. He's also grabbing a team-high 8.2 rebounds per game. Jalen Thompson adds 15.0 points per night for the Cardinals while Jared McDaniel is adding 13.5 points per outing. Concordia is shooting 45.5% from the floor as a team this season. Scouting Indiana-South Bend: The Titans enter the week having dropped three straight games after suffering a 99-94 setback on Saturday at the hands of eighth-ranked Trinity International. Indiana-South Bend travels to Holy Cross (Ind.) on Tuesday before hosting Lourdes this weekend. Taylor Brooks leads the Titans averaging 11.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season while Rashaan Jackson adds 10.7 points per night. As a team Indiana-South Bend is shooting 43.3% from the floor.
Thurman Shooting Lights Out: Malik Thurman is shooting 58.3% from the floor through seven games for the Gray Wolves in 2017-2018. The team's lone senior has made 5-of-7 (71.4%) of his three-point attempts, and leads Lourdes in scoring averaging 12.9 points per game. He has tallied double figures in five of the seven contests.
Mixing Up the Lineup: After using the same lineup for the first six games of the season, head coach
Josh Gibson mixed things up on Saturday at Michigan-Dearborn. Only
Jordan Fabry made his seventh start of the season while
Bryce McComb,
Deuce Martin, and
McRay White all made their first collegiate starts against the Wolverines.
70 (Or is it 60) is the Magic Number: Lourdes is 4-0 this season when scoring 70 points or more this season. However, the Gray Wolves have yet to win a game this year when failing to reach the 60-point mark in a game.
Sharing the Output: Lourdes has spread its offense out throughout the season thus far. Only
Malik Thurman (12.9 ppg) and
Clif Snow (11.7 ppg) are averaging in double figures, but the Gray Wolves have eight players averaging between 3.0 and 7.9 points per night.
Getting Defensive: Lourdes is allowing just 67.3 points per game on the season, a mark that ranks ninth among all NAIA Division II schools. In addition, the Gray Wolves are 28th nationally limiting the opposition to just 41.5% shooting from the floor.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Lawrence Tech and just behind Concordia (Mich.) in the league balloting. Cornerstone was the unanimous pick to win the WHAC in 2017-2018, and is the preseason #1 team in the nation in NAIA Division II.
