Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The final two games before Christmas both come on the road for Lourdes over the next week. The Gray Wolves travel to Rochester (Mich.) for their final Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game in 2017 on Thursday night before heading to Akron Wayne on Tuesday evening for a non-conference tilt.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has an 11-30 (.268) record. Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 72-88 (.450) record in his sixth season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Rochester (Mich.) has won all three previous meetings against Lourdes dating back to Jan. 22, 2011. Last season the Warriors scored a 75-63 victory over Lourdes in Rochester Hills, Mich., and are 2-0 against the Gray Wolves all-time at home. Lourdes is 5-0 all-time against Akron Wayne in a series that began on Nov. 8, 2014. Last year the Gray Wolves defeating the Warriors 83-48 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes won the only previous meeting in Orrville, Ohio, 88-62, on Nov. 7, 2015.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes battled second-ranked Cornerstone most of the way on Wednesday evening, but the Golden Eagles went on a 14-1 run to close the first half and led by as many as 21 before the Gray Wolves fell 72-64 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.Â
Jordan Fabry led the Gray Wolves with 18 points off the bench. On Saturday, Lourdes forced 20 turnovers from fifth-ranked Indiana Tech, but shot just 30.6% from the floor while falling 70-55 to the Warriors. Fabry tallied a team-high 14 points while
Kadeim Jones added 12 more for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors had their four-game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling at home to Northwestern Ohio 64-60. Justin Nafso leads Rochester scoring 15.6 points per game this year while Armand Cartwright is tallying 11.8 points per night. Kash Blackwell adds 10.2 points per game for a team tallying 75.8 points per outing. Defensively, Rochester is allowing 71.2 points per contest.
Scouting Akron Wayne: The Warriors enter the week having dropped five straight games after suffering a 96-55 setback at Clark State on Saturday. Akron Wayne travels to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday and Ohio Lancaster on Saturday before hosting the Gray Wolves.
Fabry Has Big Week: Jordan Fabry entered last week's contests against a pair of top-five programs having scored just 56 total points in his first nine games. In two games last week, the freshmen led Lourdes with 18 and 14 points respectively against Cornerstone and Indiana Tech, raising his season scoring average to 8.0 points per outing. Fabry made 8-of-13 (61.5%) three-point attempts in the two games after connecting on just seven of his first 30 as a collegiate player.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes has been solid offensively taking care of the basketball this season, especially over the last six games. The Gray Wolves have not committed more than 12 turnovers in a game since Nov. 15, and have averaged just 12.6 miscues per game for the entire season. Through the first 12 games, Lourdes has turned the ball over more than 15 times in a game just twice this season.
Jones on a Roll Offensively: Kadeim Jones has scored in double figures in five straight games for the Gray Wolves after posting 13 and 12 points against Cornerstone and Indiana Tech respectively last week. During the five-game span, Jones has raised his season's scoring average by 2.6 points per game, and ranks third on the squad tallying 10.5 points per night for the year now.
Connecting from the Line: Clif Snow ranks 18th nationally among all NAIA Division II players shooting 88.4% from the free throw line. The freshman has connected on 38-of-43 this season, helping Lourdes shoot at a 69.7% clip for the year as a team, an improvement of 12.0% from the 2016-2017 campaign when the Gray Wolves connected at a 57.7% clip as a team.
Among the Nation's Best: Lourdes is allowing just 70.9 points per game on the season, a mark that ranks 16th among all NAIA Division II teams. The Gray Wolves also rank 29th nationally with a 2.00 turnover margin and are 29th tallying 3.3 blocks per game. In addition, the Gray Wolves are 47th in the nation allowing opponents to shoot just 43.4% from the floor.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Lawrence Tech and just behind Concordia (Mich.) in the league balloting. Cornerstone was the unanimous pick to win the WHAC in 2017-2018, and is the preseason #1 team in the nation in NAIA Division II.
This and That: Not one Gray Wolf has started every game this season with nine different players having drawn at least one starting assignment ... opponents are shooting just 57.1% from the free throw line against Lourdes this year ...
