Lourdes had six players finish in double figures on Wednesday evening, but Lourdes came up just short in a 101-93 contest against Madonna at the Activities Center in Livonia, Mich.
Â

Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) poured in 12 points.
Â
"We played hard and fought all the way to the end," head coach
Summer Quesenberry said after the game.
Â
Madonna led throughout the first half, although Lourdes stayed close, trailing by just three, 25-22, after the opening period. A 9-1 run in the second allowed the Crusaders to open up a double figure lead, as the hosts held the Gray Wolves without a field goal for nearly five minutes. Madonna eventually led 44-36 at the break.
Â
Lourdes scored the first seven points of the third to pull within one, and continued the 14-3 run to take a three-point lead 50-47, with 6:16 to play after a basket by Whiteside. Madonna responded with a 12-1 spurt of its own to rebuild a double figure lead, and extended it to 11, 73-62, heading into the final 10 minutes.
Â
The Crusaders pushed the lead to as many as 16 in the fourth before Lourdes battled back. Trailing 95-81 with 1:22 to play, Motycka hit two threes and Ramey added another as part of an 11-2 spurt over the next 1:05, but the Gray Wolves ran out of time and Madonna made free throws down the stretch.
Â
After shooting just 33% from the floor in the opening half, Lourdes shot better than 52% over the final 20 minutes to battle back. Lourdes finished the game with 23 turnovers though.Â
Â
"Turnovers against proved to be the difference in the game," Quesenberry added. "We were unable to overcome 23 turnovers which led to 28 Madonna points."
Â
Becca Sabol led Madonna (15-11, 11-10 WHAC) with 24 points and 14 rebounds while Michele Hayes added 21 points and eight assists. Five Crusaders finished in double figures on the night as Madonna shot 45.7% from the field overall. The Crusaders also shot 56 free throws, making 34.
