Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes closes out a four-game homestand this week opening 2018 with a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests. The Gray Wolves, winners of three straight regular season games, host Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday evening before entertaining Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon.
On the Air: Wednesday's game against Northwestern Ohio will be broadcast live on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband. BCSN will also re-air the game on Thursday at 4 p.m. and Friday at noon. The game will also air on BCSN2 on Thursday morning at 4 a.m. and 11 p.m. and Friday at 3:30 p.m. Â
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has an 14-31 (.311) record with the Gray Wolves. Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 75-89 (.457) record in his sixth season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds an 8-7 all-time series edge against Northwestern Ohio dating back to Dec. 30, 2010. The Gray Wolves and Racers split last year's meetings, with each school defending its home floor. Northwestern Ohio was a 92-79 victory in Lima, Ohio before Lourdes won the rematch at the Ebeid Rec Center 71-67. Lourdes is 9-2 all-time against Lawrence Tech in a series that dates back to Nov. 3, 2012. The Gray Wolves have won five of the last six meetings against the Blue Devils after sweeping the season series last year. Lourdes was a 71-63 victor in Southfield, Mich. before downing Lawrence Tech 69-53 at home in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes returned from Christmas dropping a 97-56 decision in an exhibition contest at NCAA Division I foe Bowling Green on Thursday (Dec. 28).Â
Bryce McComb paced the Gray Wolves with 10 points off the bench against the Falcons. Upon returning to regular season action on Friday (Dec. 29), Lourdes scored a 91-51 victory at home against Kent State-Tuscarawas.Â
Deuce Martin tallied 22 points in the win. The Gray Wolves closed the week on Saturday (Dec. 30) with a 102-72 victory at home against Akron Wayne. Martin poured in 23 points in the triumph.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have won two straight regular season games after defeating Cincinnati Christian 86-79 on Saturday afternoon. Sadeeq Bello leads Northwestern Ohio averaging 16.9 points per game while Corbin Pierce adds 14.5 points per night. Willis Mackey, Jr. is pulling down a team-best 7.3 boards per night. Northwestern Ohio is shooting 46.0% from the floor and averaging 78.7 points per contest while surrendering 74.4 points per game.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have dropped 12 straight regular season contests entering the week and are coming off of a 91-73 setback at Central Michigan in exhibition play last Friday. Lawrence Tech hosts sixth-ranked Indiana Tech on Wednesday before heading to Lourdes. Devonte Myles leads the Blue Devils averaging 16.0 points per game while grabbing 7.2 rebounds per night. Ty'rese Searles adds 15.2 points per night for the Blue Devils, which are shooting 43.4% from the field as a team and averaging 64.6 points per outing.
Martin Earns Player of the Week Honors: Deuce Martin became Lourdes' first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week in more than two years after capturing the honor for his efforts in the two wins last week. Martin averaged 22.5 points per game, including a career-high 23 against Akron Wayne. Martin shot 73.9% from the floor, including 84.6% from three-point range where he made 11-of-13 shots. The freshman was a perfect 7-for-7 from long range against the Warriors.
A Long Range Attack: Lourdes made 13 three-point field goals against both Kent State-Tuscarawas and Akron Wayne last week, a season high for triples in a game for the Gray Wolves. Lourdes shot 44.8% from long range over the two contests. The effort raised Lourdes season three-point field goal percentage over 30% to 30.4%.
The Century Mark: The 102 points scored by the Gray Wolves in the win over Akron Wayne are the second most ever by a Lourdes team. The only other time Lourdes reached the century mark was on Nov. 8, 2011, the program's second season, when the Gray Wolves downed Ohio State-Mansfield 105-53.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes committed just 17 turnovers total in the two regular season contests last week. The Gray Wolves matched their season low with just seven miscues against Kent State-Tuscarawas, a mark they also reached against Concordia (Mich.) on Nov. 21.
Connecting from the Line: Clif Snow ranks 14th nationally among all NAIA Division II players shooting 88.9% from the free throw line. The freshman has connected on 48-of-54 this season, helping Lourdes shoot at a 67.3% clip for the year as a team, an improvement of 10.1% from the 2016-2017 campaign when the Gray Wolves connected at a 57.7% clip as a team.
Among the Nation's Best: Lourdes is allowing just 68.6 points per game on the season, a mark that ranks seventh among all NAIA Division II teams. The Gray Wolves also rank 14th nationally with a 3.56 turnover margin and are 18th recording 8.9 steals per game. In addition, Lourdes ranks 23rd in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 42.3% shooting from the floor and the team's 3.1 blocked shots per night ranks 36th nationally.
This and That: Lourdes tallied 36 steals in the two games last week, including a season-high 19 against Akron Wayne ... the Gray Wolves opponents are shooting just 58.3% from the free throw line ... Lourdes finishes the 2017-2018 season with a 7-2 non-conference record.
