Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes reaches the midway point of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference schedule this week. The Gray Wolves take to the road for the final game of the first half on Wednesday evening, traveling to Siena Heights. The second half of conference play kicks off on Saturday when Michigan-Dearborn visits the Ebeid Rec Center.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has a 15-32 (.319) record with the Gray Wolves. Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 76-90 (.458) record in his sixth season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds an 8-6 series advantage over Siena Heights dating back to the initial meeting on Nov. 12, 2011. The Saints have won four straight meetings in the series though, sweeping last year's contests 69-61 at the Ebeid Rec Center and 71-61 in Adrian, Mich. Siena Heights holds a 4-3 series edge in games played in Adrian. The Gray Wolves hold a 7-6 series edge against Michigan-Dearborn dating back to Jan. 14, 2012. The Wolverines won this season's initial meeting on Nov. 18 in Dearborn, Mich. 72-52. In a series in which the home team has only lost one game, Lourdes defeated Michigan-Dearborn 68-64 at the Ebeid Rec Center last season.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes picked up its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating Northwestern Ohio 64-58.Â
Clif Snow tallied a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds while
Malik Thurman added 13 points. On Saturday against Lawrence Tech, the Gray Wolves started the game shooting 2-of-19 from the floor on the way to a 76-55 setback.Â
Jordan Fabry tallied 13 points to lead Lourdes in the loss.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have won two of their last three games after defeating Wilberforce 81-65 on the road Monday night. Tony Jackson II leads Siena Heights averaging 14.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting 59.1% from the floor. Nick Randle adds 12.0 points per outing while Keith Jordan, Jr. adds 11.4 points per contest. As a team Siena Heights is averaging 70.3 points per game and shooting 46.5% from the field. The Saints are allowing 71.5 points per night.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines enter the week having dropped back-to-back games after falling 91-77 at Madonna on Saturday afternoon. Michigan-Dearborn hosts Aquinas on Wednesday before heading to Lourdes. Jason Penn paces five Wolverines averaging in double figures, scoring 15.7 points per game while grabbing a team-high 8.8 rebounds per night. Mafiaion Joyner adds 13.3 points per game while Xavier Crofford chips in 11.3 points per night. As a team Michigan-Dearborn is averaging 77.6 points per game and shooting 47.1% from the floor while surrendering 74.1 points per night.
Snow Records Second Double-Double: Clif Snow registered his second double-double of his collegiate career, the only two the Gray Wolves have tallied this season, in Wednesday's win over Northwestern Ohio. The freshman tallied 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the victory over the Racers. His other double-double of the year came on Nov. 21, with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance versus Concordia (Mich.).
Assist/Turnover Ratio Turns Positive: Lourdes has posted a positive assist-to-turnover ratio this season after handing out 219 assists while committing 218 turnovers.Â
Clif Snow and
Kadeim Jones have led the way for the Gray Wolves. Snow has committed just 25 miscues while handing out 40 helpers and Jones has added 48 assists with just 31 turnovers. Â
From Downtown: For a team shooting just 30% from beyond the arc collectively this season,
Deuce Martin and
Malik Thurman are doing their part to help the Lourdes offense. Both are shooting at a 50% clip from three-point range this season, with Martin making 18-of-36 while Thurman has connected on 12-of-24 triples.
Connecting from the Line: Clif Snow ranks 15th nationally among all NAIA Division II players shooting 87.9% from the free throw line. The freshman has connected on 51-of-58 this season.Â
Kadeim Jones has also been solid from the charity stripe on the year, shooting 80.9% after making 38-of-47 attempts.
Among the Nation's Best: Lourdes is allowing just 68.4 points per game on the season, a mark that ranks fifth among all NAIA Division II teams. The Gray Wolves also rank 18th nationally with a 3.33 turnover margin and are 18th recording 8.7 steals per game. In addition, Lourdes ranks 24th in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 42.2% shooting from the floor , and the opponents' 34.1% shooting from beyond the arc is the 40th best defensive percentage in the country. Lourdes also averages 2.9 blocked shots per night, ranking 42nd nationally.
