The Lourdes men's soccer program suffered a 2-0 setback to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference-foe Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon during its Homecoming match at Wildcat Stadium.

"I think we got off to a pretty slow start," said head coach Barry Spitzer. "Cornerstone played great today but I was proud of the way we were able to fight back in the second half. Unfortunately, we didn't come up with the goals that we needed but we showed a lot of fight this afternoon."

The Golden Eagles (6-7-1 overall, 5-2 WHAC) gained the early advantage in the 13th minute of play, as David Mutembezi found the back of the net on a free kick just outside of the penalty box to put Cornerstone ahead 1-0.

Just over a minute later in the 15th minute, Logan Johns played a header through traffic into the net following a helper over the top of the Gray Wolf defense from Brennan Joseph and scored what would be the final goal of the contest.

Lourdes found itself outshot by an 8-0 tally in the first half, but responded in the second stanza, outshooting the guests by a 7-5 margin. The Gray Wolves nearly scored on multiple occasions, but could not find pay dirt.

Cornerstone won the final shots tally 13-7, while Lourdes edged the Golden Eagles in corner kicks, 3-2.

Freshman Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainebleau (La.)) went the distance between the posts, stopping four shots to take his season total to 56 saves.

The Gray Wolves (2-9-1 overall, 1-5-1 WHAC) return home on Wednesday evening and welcome Madonna to Wildcat Stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
