Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes begins a three-game homestand this week with a pair of games inside the Ebeid Rec Center. The Gray Wolves entertain Rochester (Mich.) on Tuesday evening in WHAC play before stepping out of conference on Saturday for a home matinee against Great Lakes Christian.
On the Air: Tuesday's game against Rochester (Mich.) will be broadcast live on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband. The game will also re-air on Wednesday at 2 p.m. In addition, BCSN2 will show the game Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. and Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his third season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has a 22-43 (.338) record. Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 83-101 (.451) record in his seventh season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Rochester (Mich.) has won all five previous meetings against Lourdes in a series that began Jan. 22, 2011. The Warriors swept last year's games, winning 67-61 in Rochester Hills, Mich. and 82-63 inside the Ebeid Rec Center in their first appearance ever in the building. Lourdes won the only previous meeting against Great Lakes Christian 87-50 on Oct. 30, 2017 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Six players tallied eight or more points on Tuesday evening as Lourdes defeated Indiana-South Bend 82-55.
Clif Snow led the way with 14 points and 13 rebounds while
Desmond Frazier and
Bryce McComb added 12 points each. The Gray Wolves opened WHAC play on Saturday suffering an 86-68 setback at Madonna.
Kadeim Jones led Lourdes with 15 points while
Brett Lauf added 14 points and Snow chipped in 13 more.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors have dropped three straight regular season contests after suffering a 104-93 setback at fifth-ranked Indiana Tech on Saturday. Armand Cartwright leads Rochester scoring 16.9 points per game while shooting 57.9% from three-point range. Justin Nafso adds 14.7 points per outing while Kash Blackwell is scoring 14.3 points per night while grabbing a team-leading 8.0 rebounds per game. Peter Agba is also scoring in double figures, posting 10.9 points per night while shooting 69.6% from the floor.
Scouting Great Lakes Christian: The Lakers have won six straight games entering the week following a 90-87 victory over Asbury on the road Saturday to capture the Asbury Classic title. Ja'quin Jones leads Great Lakes Christian averaging 15.3 points per game while Isiah Reed adds 13.6 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds per outing. Lance Adams is scoring 12.4 points per game while Quincy Green (11.4 ppg) and Basit Seidu (10.0 ppg) give the Lakers five players averaging in double figures. Great Lakes Christian plays an exhibition game at Davenport on Monday before visiting Lourdes.
Scoring and Assisting: Brett Lauf has led Lourdes in assists in all but one game this season, averaging 4.43 per contest. The Gray Wolf sophomore has 31 total assists while committing just 24 turnovers on the year. Lauf also leads the Gray Wolves averaging 14.9 points per outing. He has tallied double figures in five of the seven contests. Defensively, Lauf also leads the team with 13 steals.
Connecting from the Line: Lourdes is shooting 79.8% from the free throw line this season, having made 103 of its first 129 attempts. The Gray Wolves rank fifth in NAIA Division II from the charity stripe.
Kadeim Jones leads the way shooting 83.3% (35-of-42) while
Clif Snow is an 82.4% (14-of-17) shooter. Last season Lourdes shot just 57.7% from the line as a team. This year, the Gray Wolves have shot a higher percentage than the opposition in each of the first seven games.
Snow Keeps Doubling it Up: Clif Snow registered his third double-double of the year against Indiana-South Bend last Tuesday, scoring 14 points while adding 13 rebounds. The double-double was the sixth of Snow's career. The sophomore has led Lourdes in rebounding in each of the first seven games this season.
Playing Defense: Even after allowing 86 points to Madonna on Saturday afternoon, the Gray Wolves rank 26th in the NAIA yielding just 71.14 points per game this season. Lourdes has held five of its seven foes to 72 points or less this year. The Gray Wolves' field goal percentage defense is 41st nationally with the opposition shooting 42.6% from the floor, including just 31.9% from beyond the three-point arc.
Frazier Connects from Deep: Desmond Frazier has made 13 of his first 26 three-point attempts this season, connecting at a 50% clip from beyond the arc. The Gray Wolf senior made just 21 total triples last season in 27 games.
Lourdes Tabbed Ninth in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in ninth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Northwestern Ohio and just behind Concordia (Mich.) in the league balloting. Indiana Tech was the favorite to win the WHAC in 2018-2019.
This and That: Clif Snow ranks 24th in NAIA Division II grabbing 9.7 rebounds per game ... Lourdes is averaging 7.1 points more in the second half than the first this year (33.6 vs. 40.7) ... a 5-2 start is tied for the second best seven-game start in program history (6-1 in 2013-2014).
