Women's Basketball Hosts Indiana Tech, Travels to Cornerstone This Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The Gray Wolves will play their third consecutive home game on Wednesday evening as they host Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe and nationally-ranked Indiana Tech inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. Lourdes will take to the road and continue WHAC play with a matchup at Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon.
 
Head Coach John Kenger: First-year head coach John Kenger will guide the Gray Wolf bench this season. Kenger owns a 4-4 (.500) record with the Gray Wolves. Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 43-58 (.426) record in four seasons.  He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: The Gray Wolves and Warriors will meet for the 15th time in the series' history on Wednesday evening. Lourdes trails the all-time series by a 13-1 margin. The lone Lourdes victory in the series came in the form of a 72-62 victory on Feb. 2, 2013. Indiana Tech is 4-0 all-time in the series when nationally-ranked. Like Indiana Tech, Cornerstone owns a 13-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Gray Wolves. Lourdes picked up a 78-74 victory over the Golden Eagles last year on Dec. 6, 2017.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes began a three-game homestand last week and dropped a close 77-70 decision to Rochester (Mich.) at the Ebeid Recreation Center. The Gray Wolves rebounded with an impressive 86-43 victory over Great Lakes Christian at the Ebeid Recreation Center. In the victory over the Crusaders, Sydney Miller poured in a game-high 19 points to lead Lourdes.

Scouting Indiana Tech: After winning its season-opener over Huntington, Indiana Tech fell 81-63 to No. 4-ranked Marian. Since that loss, the Warriors have rattled off seven straight victories and started 3-0 in WHAC play. Kendall Knapke leads a trio of Warriors scoring in double digits, and ranks third in the WHAC at 15.6 points per outing. DeAnn Kaufman and Alexis Hill rank second and third on the team with 12.6 and 11.1 points per game, respectively. Hill leads the team and ranks seventh in the WHAC, pulling down 7.2 rebounds per contest. Jenna Szostak and Knapke rank first and second respectively in the conference in three-point field goal percentage entering Wednesday's matchup. Knapke also ranks second in the WHAC with 30 three-point field goals made. Rachel Bell trails only the Gray Wolves' Christiana Jefferson in assists per game in the WHAC, handing out 4.78 helpers per contest. 

Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles opened the season on a four-game skid before triumphing over Grace Christian 64-63 on Nov. 5. Cornerstone has since lost its last five contests. The Golden Eagles will entertain Lawrence Tech on Wednesday before hosting the Gray Wolves. Shelby Nyboer leads the team with 15.1 points per game. Her 166 points this season lead the WHAC. Taylor Richards and Mya Udell also average double figures at 12.4 and 10.4 points per game, respectively. Nyboer also paces the team with 7.4 rebounds per outing. Udell leads the team and has capitalized on 17 three point field goals this season.

Sharing The Ball: In the Gray Wolves 86-43 victory over Great Lakes Christian, 12 of the 14 athletes that saw the floor scored for Lourdes. Four players led the way scoring in double-figures and the Gray Wolves used a total team effort in the victory. 

Comfortable At Home: Sydney Miller has found a rhythm at the friendly confines thus far this season. Miller has led the Gray Wolves in scoring in each of their three home contests this season. Miller has averaged 17.0 points per outing for Lourdes in home contests.

A Total Team Effort: Through eight games this season, Miller leads the team with 10.4 points per matchup. Five Gray Wolves average 8.0 points per game or better, while 12 athletes chip in 4.0 points per contest or more.

A High Flying Offense: Lourdes has reached the 70-point plateau in six of its eight games so far this season. The Gray Wolves scored 70 points or better in just 10 of its games last season. Lourdes has also doubled-up two opponents this season in scoring, a feat that didn't happen at all during the 2017-18 campaign.

Leading The WHAC: Christiana Jefferson, the team's leader in assists last season, currently leads all WHAC athletes, dishing out 5.63 assists per contest. Jefferson handed out a season-best eight assists in Lourdes matchup with Rochester last week. She ranks second in the WHAC with 45 total assists in just eight games.

Stringing Together Two Victories: After each of its four victories this season, Lourdes has come up short in the following contest. The Gray Wolves will look win consecutive games for the first time this season when they host Indiana Tech on Wednesday evening. 

This and That: In two of its last three games, Lourdes has had at least three athletes score in double figures ... The Gray Wolves are 1-36 all-time when playing nationally-ranked opponents.
