Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: With the non-conference portion of the schedule in the rearview mirror, Lourdes returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with four of its next five games on the road. Â The Gray Wolves travel to Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday evening to ring in 2019 before hosting Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon in the lone home contest in the first half of January.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his third season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has a 28-47 (.373) record. Â Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 89-105 (.459) record in his seventh season. Â He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio holds a 9-8 all-time advantage over Lourdes in a series that began Dec. 30, 2010. Â The two schools split last season's meetings, with both teams defending their home court. Â The Gray Wolves were a 64-58 victor inside the Ebeid Rec Center while the Racers won a 111-106 triple-overtime contest to conclude the season in Lima, Ohio. Â Northwestern Ohio holds a 6-3 edge in games played in Lima. Â Lourdes is 9-4 all-time against Lawrence Tech dating back to Nov. 3, 2012. Â Last year, the Blue Devils swept the season series, winning 76-55 inside the Ebeid Rec Center and 70-67 in Southfield, Mich. Â Lourdes is 5-1 all-time against Lawrence Tech at home, including 1-1 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes limited Kent State-Tuscarawas to just 29.3% shooting from the floor and defeated the Golden Eagles 82-43 at home on Friday night. Â
Clif Snow had 15 points and 10 rebounds while
Kadeim Jones added 13 points. Â On Saturday, the Gray Wolves won their fifth straight game, downing Akron Wayne 104-73 at home. Â Jones had 25 points while Snow added 24 points and nine boards.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday with an 82-76 overtime victory against Cincinnati Christian. Â Zach Montes leads the Racers averaging 16.9 points per game while Nathan Lessing adds 16.1 points per night. Â Willis Mackey Jr. adds 11.2 points and a team-leading 6.4 rebounds per game for Northwestern Ohio.Â
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have dropped four of their last five regular season games after falling 62-54 at Concordia (Mich.) on Dec. 8. Â Lawrence Tech plays at Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Â Ty Searles leads the Blue Devils averaging 21.2 points per night while Devonte Myles adds 12.4 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest.
It's Been Awhile: Lourdes has won five straight regular season games for the first time under head coach
Josh Gibson. Â The last time the Gray Wolves won at least five consecutive contests was Jan. 23-Feb. 13, 2013, when Lourdes won a school-record eight games in a row. Â The five-game winning streak is tied for the third longest in program history.
Surpassing Last Year's Win Total: With its victory over Akron Wayne on Saturday, the Gray Wolves have reached 11 on the season, surpassing last year's 10 wins. Â The 11 victories are the most for the program since finishing 17-14 during the 2014-2015 campaign, and the most since
Josh Gibson took over the helm prior to the 2016-2017 season.
Reaching the Century Mark: Lourdes scored 104 points against Akron Wayne, marking the second time in three games the Gray Wolves reached the century mark. Â Lourdes scored more than 100 points in a game twice last season as well, after having accomplished the feat just once during the program's first seven seasons.
Playing Defense: The 43 points allowed against Kent State-Tuscarawas last Friday marked the fewest the Gray Wolves have surrendered under
Josh Gibson. Â In fact, it is the lowest point total for the opposition since Lourdes gave up just 32 points to fourth-ranked Davenport on Feb. 18, 2015 in a 53-32 victory over the Panthers.
Another Double-Double for Snow: Clif Snow tallied his sixth double-double of the season, and ninth of his career, on Friday night against Kent State-Tuscarawas. Â The sophomore scored a team-leading 15 points while pulling down 10 boards in just 18 minutes of action.
Kyle Kegley Sees First Action: After missing the first 15 games of the season due to injury,
Kyle Kegley made an impact in his first two games on the court. Â The freshman scored six points and pulled down four boards in his collegiate debut against Kent State-Tuscarawas before adding eight points and eight boards against Akron Wayne in 13 minutes of action.
Connecting from the Line: Lourdes is shooting 78.9% from the free throw line this season, having made 202 of its 256 attempts. Â The Gray Wolves rank sixth in NAIA Division II from the charity stripe. Â This year, the Gray Wolves shot the same or a higher percentage than the opposition in each of the first 16 games before Akron Wayne ended the streak on Saturday, shooting 73.7% from the stripe to the Gray Wolves' 69.2%.
