Trio of Games Scheduled for Lourdes During First Week of 2019

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes opens the New Year with a trio of games during the first week of 2019. Lourdes will travel to UNOH on Wednesday evening before hosting Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Gray Wolves will then step out of conference play for a road matchup with Great Lakes Christian on Monday afternoon.
 
Head Coach John Kenger:
First-year head coach John Kenger will guide the Gray Wolf bench this season. Kenger owns a 5-8 (.385) record with the Gray Wolves. Overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 44-62 (.415) record in four seasons.  He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: The Gray Wolves meet UNOH for the 15th time in the all-time series. UNOH owns an 11-3 series lead. The two teams split the series last season, with Lourdes picking up a 107-77 victory in its final road tilt of last season. Lourdes is 3-9 all-time against Lawrence Tech, falling in each of the last six matchups. The Gray Wolves boast a 2-0 record all-time against Great Lakes Christian. Lourdes defeated the Crusaders convincingly earlier in the season, winning at the Ebeid Recreation Center 86-43.

Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves fell to nationally-ranked UM-Dearborn in their lone regular season contest in the last two weeks. Lourdes held a one-point advantage through three quarters, but the Wolverines pulled away late to pick up the victory. Lourdes also dropped a 99-30 decision to Grand Valley State University in an exhibition matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Scouting UNOH: The Racers will look to end a three-game losing skid when they meet Lourdes in their first game of 2019. Emily Patton leads the Racers offensively and ranks second in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, tallying 15.8 points per contest. Fataya Larry ranks second on the team, netting 9.2 point per outing. Larry also leads the team and WHAC, averaging 11.1 rebounds per contest. Her 13 blocks also lead the team. Leticia Johnson paces the Racer offense with 2.5 assists per contest.


Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week winners of two straight and five of their last six games. LTU will meet Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday before its matchup with Lourdes. Lawrence Tech's Nicole Buckingham leads the WHAC with an impressive 17.9 points per outing. Kendall Fisher also averages double-figures for the Blue Devils, netting 11.4 points per game. Buckingham nearly averages a double-double on the year as she leads the team and ranks second in the WHAC, pulling down 9.6 rebounds per contest. Rachel Price leads the league with 27 blocks, while Buckingham is second on the team and third in the WHAC with 21 blocked shots. The Blue Devils have had the same starting five in all 16 games this season.

Scouting Great Lakes Christian: The Crusaders are still searching for their first victory of the 2018-19 season entering the week. GLC will travel to Finlandia before their contest with the Gray Wolves. Through 13 games, Oghenehoke Johnson leads a trio of Crusaders in double-figure scoring with 13.8 points per contest. Mystic Striker and Kerlunda Dervil average 12.9 and 11.8 points per game, respectively. Striker is averaging a double-double on the year, grabbing a team-best 11.3 rebounds per contest. Point guard Valerie Kopper has dished out a team-high 3.5 assists per game this season.

Getting Back In The Win Column: Lourdes is currently riding its longest losing skid of the season, dropping its last three straight. The Gray Wolves will look to pick up where they left off last season when they beat UNOH 107-77 in the final road contest of the year. 

Keeping Pace In The WHAC: Christiana Jefferson currently leads the team and is tied for third in the WHAC, handing out 4.33 assists per contest. The senior is on pace to lead the team in assists and assists per contest for the second straight season.

Riding The Hot Hand: Jami Hardy, the teams scoring leader at 9.9 points per contest, has led the team in scoring in each of their last three contests. Hardy also led the team in scoring in the exhibition matchup at GVSU. Hardy has led the team in scoring in four of their 13 games this season.

Tipping Off 2019: Lourdes will look to win its second game in program history to begin a New Year. The Gray Wolves are 1-6 all-time in their first game when turning the calendar to the New Year. Lourdes will meet UNOH for the fourth time to open the New Year.

This and That: The Gray Wolves have won the battle on the glass this season, outrebounding their opponents by a 537-487 margin ... Lourdes has also outscored its opponents 879-823 this season ... Lourdes has had seven different leading scorers in 13 games.
